What are the eligibility requirements?

The eligibility requirements for admission to various programs at Central Queensland University are as follows:

Is there any scholarship or financial aid available for international students?

Every year, CQU funds approximately USD 24 million worth of scholarships to support international students. These scholarships are awarded to students in recognition of their strong academic performance. This enables students to reach their full potential and build on their educational aspirations. CQU’s two most popular scholarships for international students are the International Student Scholarship (ISS) and the International Student Scholarship – Regional (ISS–R). When do the admissions start?

Central Queensland University has three intake sessions in one academic year – March, July, and November. The tentative range of deadlines for admission to UG and PG courses across various campuses of the university are listed below:

What is the application process?

You can follow these steps to fill your online application:

Step 1: Register and create an account on iStart.




Step 2: Go to “Start an application” and create a new application by searching for the program of your choice. Then select the appropriate program and begin the application. Add personal details such as gender, date of birth, phone number, address, visa details, and course preferences.




Step 3: Enter personal details as required.




Step 4: Enter academic details and English proficiency test scores. Next, upload the required certificates and transcripts.




Step 5: Upload transcripts and test score reports.




Step 6: Add employment history, financial details, and university scholarship details. Next, accept the declaration and sign using your name.




Ensure all the sections of the form are filled and all required documents have been uploaded. Review your application thoroughly. Verify your application. After successful verification, submit your application.

When will I hear from the university after I submit my application?

After the successful submission of an international application, the admission committee carefully processes the application. Arriving at an admission decision takes around seven to ten working days. Applicants can check the iStart portal to track the status of their applications. After a decision is made, the university emails the applicant notifying them of the outcome.

Part Time Work While Studying

Can I work while studying here?

International students with a study visa can work part-time while studying at the university and do not need a separate work visa for part-time employment. Students need to be aware of the following working conditions before they join any job:

  • Students cannot start working until they have commenced studying at the university.
  • Once the course has started, students can work up to 40 hours per fortnight while the university is in (first day of the term until the last day of exams).
  • During official vacation periods (as per the academic calendar), students can work unlimited hours.
  • Students of Masters by Research or a PhD can work unlimited hours once their course has commenced. However, they must ensure it does not impact the studies.

How many colleges and campuses does the university have?

Central Queensland University is divided into eight schools based on their areas of study. It has 13 campuses for international students across the country, offering the largest footprint of any tertiary education institution in Australia. The main and largest campus in Rockhampton has lush gardens with lots of greenery, 30 academic buildings including engineering and allied health precincts, nursing, medical and paramedic science laboratories, and more. The other campuses are in Brisbane, Cairns, Mackay, Perth, Melbourne, and Sydney. Other satellite campuses are located in Adelaide, Bundaberg, Gladstone Marina, Mackay City, Rockhampton City, and Townsville.

Is on-campus housing available?

Central Queensland University offers on-campus accommodation through Student Residences which are available in the Rockhampton and Mackay campus only. These residences are safe, convenient and affordable with friendly staff, allowing students to be part of the college community.

Utilities and internet are usually included. Apart from this, students can enjoy a truly Australian experience by staying with an Australian family in their home. Such homestays usually include meals, internet and utilities covered in the rent paid to the host.
