One of the largest universities in regional Australia, the Central Queensland University was established in 1967 in Rockhampton. The university was primarily called the Queensland Institute of Technology (QIT) Capricornia and received university accreditation many years later. The university has been ranked between 551 and 600 by QS World University Ranking for the year 2021. Earlier the university was placed between 601 and 650 for four years in a row, 2017 - 2020.
