Charles Darwin University celebrated 25 years of university education in the Northern Territory in 2014. The university’s history can be traced back to 1989 when the Northern Territory University was opened. The Northern Territory University was Australia’s first dual-sector university that delivered both Vocational Education and Training and Higher Education. A decision was made to create a new university through the merger of the Northern Territory University, Centralian College in Alice Springs and the Northern Territory Rural College in Katherine and a partnership with the Menzies School of Health Research. This new university named Charles Darwin University was established in 2003.

When we talk about the rankings of Darwin University, it is ranked at the #701-750th position in the QS World University Rankings 2022. It ranks at the #351-400th position in the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings 2023.

Charles Darwin University has five campuses located around Australia. The Casuarina campus is the largest campus of CDU and is the main hub for higher education, vocational education and training, and research programs. The Palmerston campus is home to a number of VET courses and is within walking distance from the Palmerston city centre. Charles Darwin University courses for international students range from foundation program, first-year diplomas, pre-masters courses, certificate level programs, diploma and advanced diploma programs, undergraduate, postgraduate, and high degree by research programs. The university has more than 21,000 students. As per the data of 2022, there are currently more than 2,000 international students at CDU.

The on-campus and off-campus accommodation services are offered to international students. Casuarina accommodation, Katherine accommodation, and Alice Springs accommodation are some of the options where students can live. International House Darwin (IHD) is present right on the Casuarina campus and people come here not just to study and learn, but to build personal journeys and their future. Katherine Student accommodation (KSA) includes a dining room, recreation room, sports oval, training and conference facilities, and a pool.

Charles Darwin University offers a generous range of scholarships to international students. The scholarships reward high-achieving students with outstanding academic accomplishments and who contribute to their potential by making a positive impact on the world.
