Founded in 1966, Curtin University is an innovative, global university established as Australia’s first university of technology. It is associated with the Australian Technology Network, Association of Southeast Asian Institutions of Higher Learning, and Open Universities Australia. Earlier, the university was known by the name of the Western Australian Institute of Technology. In 1986, the Parliament of Western Australia granted it the status of a university. Curtin is a popular study destination and recognized worldwide for its tie-ups with industry, an array of innovative courses, and high-quality research. Curtin achieved five-star ratings in five categories in the 2020 Good Universities Guide. It was ranked in the top band of Australian universities for learning resources, faculty qualifications, and high-quality teaching among others. Curtin was ranked in the top one percent of universities globally in the Academic Ranking of World Universities 2019.
Curtin is known to have collaborations with over 90 universities. Being a member of the Australian Technology Network, the university has been actively participating in many academic and practical research theories. Some of the major research work includes Resource & Energy, Information & Communication, Ageing & Well-being, Health, and the Changing Environment. Curtin is the only Western Australian University that produces a Ph.D. recipient for the AINSE gold medal. It is considered the highest recognition for PhD-level research excellence in Australia and New Zealand.

Moreover, it includes the John Curtin Prime Ministerial Library collection. Overall, the campus features a peaceful learning environment.
The notable alumni of Curtin include Jon Doust (Renowned comedian), Natalia Cooper (Journalist for Nine News), Sheila McHale (Former Cabinet Minister of Western Australia), Dean Israelite (Film director), Tim Winton (Famous author) and Judy Davis (Emmy Award Winner).
