What all courses are available to international students?


Murdoch offers over 300 courses at the undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral levels that enable students to forge their own path and join the global community of free thinkers.

Murdoch also offers a number of pathway options for international students through the Murdoch Institute of Technology (MIT).

 

English for Academic Purposes (EAP) Courses

MIT offers a flexible teaching structure that introduces you to university teaching methodologies. As part of EAP courses, you will be engaged in collaborative learning, structured self-study, and student teacher dialogue - just as though you were studying a bachelor degree.

 

Murdoch University Preparation Course (MUPC)

UG aspirants who have completed Year 12 but do not meet the specific direct entry criteria for their chosen courses can enrol for this course. The MUPC course provides a pathway to the first year of study of a Bachelor degree at Murdoch.

 

Foundation Studies Course

After successful completion of the foundation studies, you will gain direct entry into the first year of your chosen undergraduate degree. This course is accredited by Tertiary Education Quality and Standards Agency (TEQSA).

 

Diploma

MIT offers two Diploma programmes (Business & Information and Communication Technology), with each programme consisting of units that comprise core units from specific Murdoch University degrees. Upon successful completion, you will have a direct pathway to the second year of a range of majors in the Bachelor of Business, Bachelor of Communication or Bachelor of Science.

What are the eligibility requirements?


Murdoch has an age limit of 17 years for students entering for a UG or foundation studies. Along with it, UG applicants should have a minimum entry score, which is expressed as an IB, OP, ATAR, or equivalent in the respective courses pages. Each programme and courses has different country and subject-specific requirements. GRE/GMAT is optional for PG courses. In general, international students should meet these qualifications:

What all documents are needed for application?


Murdoch accepts scanned copies of application documents but not e-transcripts. These documents should be in English or attached with English translations certified by designated authorities. In general, international students are required to submit the following documents during the application process:


Application & Tuition Fees


Is there any application fees?


The standard application fee for all Western Australian universities is AUD 165 when applying through the Tertiary Institutions Service Centre (TISC). The TISC is an incorporated administrative agency that assists in processing applications for Western Australian Universities. So, if you apply through an agent of TISC (as the university recommends), you will have to pay a fee of AUD 165. The fee is the same for both UG and PG students.


What is the fee structure of courses offered by the university?


As an international student, your fees will depend on the course and varies depending on the course and progressive years. You can work out the cost of your units with the university’s fee calculator. International students have to pay full payment at once, that's the only option for them.

Scholarships & Financial Aid


Is there any scholarship or financial aid available for international students?


Murdoch University offers about 18 international scholarships to undergraduate, postgraduate, and PhD (research) students. The different scholarships available to international students are based on:

  • Academic achievements
  • Personal or financial hardship
  • Region-specific
  • Studying abroad

International students should meet these criteria to be eligible for the scholarship offered by Murdoch:

  • Must be an international ?student
  • Should be a full-time and full fee-paying student at the Perth campus
  • Receive an ATAR score more than 92 (or its equivalent in an international qualifying academic program) within the most recent year and a half from the end date of the award
  • Apply to study a course-work in one of the majors offered in the order of Engineering and Energy, Information Technology, or Maths and Statistics
  • Students is not receiving any other Murdoch grant/scholarship

Admission Process


When do the admissions start?


Murdoch has two major intakes – Spring and Fall/Autumn. Most of the courses are offered in both the intakes, however, a few master’s programmes may be offered in one intake only. Check the respective course pages to know which courses are offered in each intake. There are no stringent deadlines, as applications received after course-specific deadlines can still be considered on a case-by-case basis. However, the university has course-specific deadlines that may vary year by year.

To study an undergraduate, honours or postgraduate, or research degree at Murdoch University, you need to apply via one of Murdoch’s Registered International Agents. You can find your local agent here: murdoch.edu.au/study/undergraduatestudents/how-to-apply/apply-through-an-agent/find-an-agent.

 

After that, if your application is accepted, you will receive an offer letter from the university. This offer letter will contain all the required details about the date of commencement of the program, the relevant course fees of the course you have opted for, deadlines for the payment due, and other important dates. For your confirmation, you will have to revert your signed acceptance and pay the required fees. Then, the university will issue you an electronic Confirmation of Enrolment (eCOE), with which you can begin your visa application process.


When will I hear from the university after I submit my application?


The university usually reverts within two to eight weeks depending on the time period you applied. If applications are sent by the early bird timeline, you can expect a revert earlier than other applicants who apply at a later date.

Murdoch welcomes a diverse set of student body with over 24,000 students from more than 85 different countries. In 2019, it enrolled over 25,000 students and gained 90% overall in international students satisfaction as per the International Student Barometer 2019. The top five home countries represented at Murdoch were UAE, Malaysia, Bhutan, India, and Singapore. At the UG level, the university enrolled 3,280 students, of which 471 or 14% were international students.

Part Time Work While Studying

Q. Can I work while studying here?

Students can work part-time on the campus as per the conditions on their visas. Students on study visa are allowed to work up to 40 hours per fortnight during the sessions and full time during vacation periods.  Here are a few important details to consider if you aim to work while on a student visa:

  • During the visa application process, you must show that you have ample self-funding savings, and that you would not rely solely on income from jobs to support yourself.
  • If you have any dependents on your student visa, they will be granted job authorisation until your visa is authorised.
  • The type of job you apply for can be determined by your skills, employment status, and opportunities available at the time.

 

Internships are also available at Murdoch, and these usually lasts for four weeks. The university’s Careers and Employment Centre will assist you in finding job opportunities, improve resume-writing and interview skills.

Murdoch University has seven campuses across four countries. There are four campuses in Western Australia, including the main campus at Perth. Its international campuses are located in Dubai, Singapore, and Myanmar.

Is on-campus housing available?


The university encourages students to live on-campus in the Murdoch University Village and witness all the on-campus action. The Village has stylish and fully furnished apartments available for rent, with options to suit almost any budget. The Village offers a wide range of facilities, which includes:

Apart from this, students can also choose to stay in housing which are off the campus, privately owned, or share with other roommates. Students with families can share a house with others in a local Perth suburb or rent a private accommodation. Depending on the one’s lifestyle, students can choose to rent a single room in a house that is occupied by several other people or, alternatively, lease a single property oneself.
