Established in 1949, the University Of New South Wales (UNSW) is an open research university that was developed with a motive to meet the new demands of the growing technology. Initially, it was known as the New South Wales University of Technology. Notably, the university gained its statuary status in 1949 by the Parliament of New South Wales, Sydney. After gaining this status, it was provided funds for the construction of buildings on the campus. And, the classes started a year later with an enrolment of 46 students. UNSW established two colleges, one in Newcastle and the other in Wollongong.

Located in Kensington, Sydney, the main campus has two research centers. The UNSW Lowy Cancer Research Centre studies cancer and related problems in children and adults. The other research center is Wainwright Analytical Centre that specializes in studying chemical, biological and physical materials. It is home to the faculties of medicine, engineering, and science. Moreover, music rooms, theatre halls, and fitness centers are also available on the campus. These are open to students as well as the general public.

The university offers undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral degree programs in various fields of study. The courses are offered through various departments, namely the Faculty of Law, Faculty of Art & Design, Faculty of Business School, Faculty of Art & Social Sciences, Faculty of Medicine, Faculty of Engineering and Science. Q. How is UNSW’s reputation as an institute of higher education worldwide?

Q. Is there an alternative if I’m unable to meet the academic requirements set for the course I’m interested in at UNSW?

A. Students who don’t meet the set academic requirements for their choice of course can get enrolled on a pathway program. These programs offered by the university allow them to obtain the knowledge and English language skills which help them meet the academic requirements.

Q. Can I study two courses at a time at UNSW?

A. Yes, students are permitted to study two courses together at UNSW. This helps them to gain knowledge of two expert areas, broadening your storehouse of skills and career options. A double degree does not mean that your workload will increase. In it, the core courses of both degrees will be completed at the same time. This way you will be able to pursue two undergraduate courses in less time.

Q. I’ve received a conditional offer letter. What does it mean?

A. If you’ve received a conditional offer letter it means that you are being admitted to a course on the condition that you meet the requirements mentioned in the letter of offer. Once the proof is submitted regarding the fulfilment of the same an unconditional offer letter will be sent to you. In case you do not meet the set requirements, your admission won’t be accepted.

Q. I’m weak in English. Is there any way I can work on my language skills before the classes commence?

A. Yes, the university offers academic English programs which can help students enhance their English skills before the classes begin. A variety of programs are available based on the individual requirements of the students and the study route they wish to opt for. Through these courses, students can interact with their faculty and class fellows fluently.

Q. Will my admission application be processed if I’m an international student without an IELTS score?

A. No, your application will only be processed after you submit satisfactory proof of English language proficiency. Students applying at UNSW have to submit evidence of the same, meeting the university’s English language requirements.

Q. Will the University of New South Wales help me get employment after graduating?

A. Yes, the university has a dedicated ‘Careers and Employment Office’ which will help you connect with good agencies and employers. You will also be provided guidance with regard to the development of skills that would help you grow in the professional world. The services of this office can be availed for upto 18 months after you’ve graduated.

Q. How do I apply for a scholarship at UNSW?

A. Students interested in applying for a scholarship will have to mention the same on their admission application and choose the scholarship application round which they feel is convenient. The university will then consider your scholarship application along with the other applications which are received during your selected round.

Q. How long will it take for my admission to get assessed at UNSW?

A. The admission assessment will be completed in approximately 8 weeks from when you sent all the relevant documents if you’ve not applied for any scholarship.
