What all courses are available to international students?

Acadia University offers over 200 programs across four faculties at undergraduate and graduate levels. The university also offers 80 online programs that diversify students’ skills. Acadia’s most well-received majors include Biology, Marketing, English, Psychology, Environmental Studies, and Kinesiology.

What are the eligibility requirements?

The admission criteria for international students in any programs differs depending on their country’s educational system. Thus, each international application is reviewed and processed individually.

 

Undergraduate Admissions

For Indian aspirants, a student must have a higher secondary certificate or Grade 12 certificate with a minimum of 60% from a recognized board. Apart from this, any one of these English proficiency exams scores are accepted:

Graduate Admissions

Students applying for a graduate-level program at the university must hold a four-year bachelor’s degree or an honors degree from a recognized university. It is mandatory for students to have scored at least 70% or 60 credit hours in the past two years of study. However, certain programs have additional requirements along with the basic eligibility criteria. Hence, students are advised to refer to the official website of the university. Indian aspirants need a minimum of 2.67/4.0 GPA or 70% marks in their field of study in the last two undergraduate years. Any one of these exams scores will be accepted:

What all documents are needed for application?

All applications need to be supported by official copies of all high school or college transcripts and other records of academic work. The transcripts should be certified by the school/college/institution and should either be sent to Acadia directly or sealed in an envelope and given to the student to send. Certified transcripts acceptable to Acadia will be used as a basis of admission. English proficiency report and other standardized exam score reports also need to be attached with the application form. Other documents required for application will depend on the program and course, which usually include:

Application & Tuition Fees

Is there any application fees?

Acadia charges an application processing fee for both undergraduate and graduate-level programs. The application fee for undergraduate courses is CAD 40 and for master’s course is CAD 50, non-refundable.

What is the fee structure of courses offered by the university?

Students registered in 9 or more credit hours in a term are considered full-time students. Do note that full program fee includes tuition and other charges, thus the total amount may differ as per program and course. Scholarships & Financial Aid

Is there any scholarship or financial aid available for international students?

Several funding opportunities are available to students at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Acadia University spends about CAD four million annually on scholarships and bursaries for its students. Several external scholarship schemes are also available for international students.

 

Undergraduate Scholarships	Graduate Scholarships
Entrance Scholarships UG applicants are automatically considered for this award. If the university finds a student worthy, they contact the applicants, and the amount is awarded.	Research Nova Scotia (RNS) Scholars Awards This scholarship is granted to extraordinary students pursuing health research at Nova Scotia Universities. The award (a sum of money) is given to students enrolled in postgraduate or doctoral programs.
The Arthur Irving Academy Scholarships in Environmental Studies This scholarship is awarded to outstanding students who excel in their studies. The recipient receives an amount of CAD 1,500 for four years. Applicants must have at least a 90% average score to be eligible.	Commonwealth Scholarship and Fellowship Plan This scholarship is open to Commonwealth nations’ students aspiring to study in Canada. The award is granted for a period of two years. A candidate must hold a bachelor's degree from a recognized university. The award covers the living, education, and travel expenses of the recipient.

 

Scholarship Eligibility Criteria for Indian Students

For Indian students to be eligible for an internal scholarship from Acadia University, the student must have secured at least 55% in the past coursework, while a score of 60% is a must to meet the eligibility criteria for external funding.

Admission Process

When do the admissions start?

For UG and PG programs, there are two seasonal intakes, namely Fall and Winter. Students can choose a session that suits them. Students must apply as early as possible to be considered for the Entrance Scholarship and prevent last-minute hassles.

 

Due to the differences in visa processing times of various countries worldwide, Acadia University has introduced relaxed deadlines for international students according to a student’s country of departure. Students are advised to check the list on the official website.

What is the UG and PG application process?

The application process is the same for both undergraduate and postgraduate students. Candidates can apply through the online portal: connect.acadiau.ca/apply/. To proceed with your Acadia PG application, follow the steps given below:

When will I hear from the university after I submit my application?

For undergraduate admissions, the university reverts with a decision within four business days. However, for postgraduate applications, the processing time differs from department to department. Students must approach the department supervisors for details.

What are the chances to get into this university?

With an acceptance rate of 65%, Acadia is considered one of the best universities in Canada and is recognized for its quality overall. The competition for admission is moderate. One needs to pay special attention to their grades and extra-curricular performance, as Acadia embraces holistic talent and not just academics. According to the university, a minimum 70% average (calculated by Admissions Office) is required for all programs. For 2021 admissions, it received over 3,400 applications and the average entering grade was 86%.

How many Indian/international students are studying at the university?

Acadia University is a highly diverse university that provides a vibrant learning environment and promotes quality education with cultural inclusion. At present, of the total 3,765 enrolled students, a substantial number is of international students representing 50 different countries. Part Time Work While Studying

Can I work while studying here?

Yes, students are allowed to work during their stay and period of study at Acadia University. There are two options available to students, working on- or off-campus. On-campus work involves securing a job at Acadia’s Student Union's board, which does not require a work permit or special permission. However, to be able to work off-campus, the student’s study permit must clearly state that they “may accept employment” or “may work off-campus for 20 hours a week”. If the study permit does not specify this, one must get this clause included/amended and then apply for a job.

Acadia University’s campus is located in Wolfville, Nova Scotia, and is spread on 250 acres of land. It is made of four academic faculties, and each faculty is further divided into departments and schools specialized in areas of teaching and research.

 

 

Is on-campus housing available

Although students can choose to stay off-campus in the welcoming town of Wolfville, the close-knit housing community of Acadia is no less warm and comfortable. There are 11 halls for residence purposes equipped with 24-hour on-call security that can house 1,500 students. There are rooms designed to suit everyone’s taste, ranging from high-rise to heritage and shared rooms to single deluxe suites. Students must pay a non-refundable deposit of CAD 200 and a CAD 40 residence campus program fee. The housing expense greatly varies based on:
