Q. Do I need a study permit if I’m planning to pursue a course from Cape Breton University by distance?

A. No, you do not require a study permit if you’re planning to study by distance. Students will need to possess at least stage 1, approval in principle, in order to start the course at home. But in case you come to Canada later for continuing your studies you’ll need the same or you’ll have to apply for the PGWPP.

Q. What are the admission eligibility criteria for an Indian student wishing to apply to Cape Breton University?

A. Indian students need to produce the All-India Senior School Certificate (CBSE) or Indian School Certificate (CISCE) or Senior Secondary School Certificate that’s given after Class 12. For Business Analytics, 60% and above is required in two mathematics courses and for the rest of the post-Baccalaureates programs, students should be holding a Bachelor’s degree with 2nd class, lower division; 50%.

Q. Do I need a study permit for studying in Canada at Cape Breton University?

A. Yes, international students need to apply for a study permit and either a Temporary Residence Visa (TRV) or Electrical Travel Authorisation (eTA). If your application is accepted by the university, you will need the acceptance letter for the study permit application process.

Q. Can I work in Canada if I’m a full-time student at Cape Breton University?

A. Yes, full-time students are allowed to work in Canada if they’re holding a study permit. In order to work, you will have to get a social insurance number once you’ve reached Canada.

Q. Can I obtain a work permit in between the course am pursuing from Cape Breton University?

A. No, you can only get a work permit after finishing your degree or certificate course in Canada. The same should be of atleast 8 months duration. After receiving the permit, you can work full-time there for a maximum of 3 years via the PG work permit program.

Q. Whom do I approach for immigration-related issues if I’m planning to study at Cape Breton University?

A. The university has a Canadian immigration consultant and advisors who work at the International Student & Study Abroad Centre. They help students with immigration-related issues of study, citizenship, work permit, etc.

Q. When can I expect the offer letter from Cape Breton University? What’s the next procedure?

A. If selected, the offer letter will be sent to students within 7 working days. After receiving the same, they’ll have to confirm their acceptance and pay the 1st semester fee. Students will then need to approach the local Canadian immigration office and forward an application for a study permit.

Q. When do the programs begin at Cape Breton University?

A. Most of the courses at the university commence in September, January, or May. Students entering in September can attend the new international student orientation program.

Q. What documents are required to be submitted while applying for admission at Cape Breton University?

A. Along with a completed international application form, you’ll have to pay an application processing fee of $103.00 CAD, which will be non-refundable. Documents needed include copies of all the secondary and post-secondary transcripts and certificates (both in the original language and English).

Q. Does Cape Breton University accept Duolingo Test score?

A. Yes, Duolingo English Test score is accepted by the university. For the undergraduate courses, diplomas and certificates, the score is 115. For MBA, Bachelor of Education and post-baccalaureate diplomas, it is 120.

Q. Is it mandatory to submit the English language score for admission at Cape Breton University?

A. You can be considered as an exception provided you’ve completed atleast 2 years in a secondary school (CBU recognized) or have completed minimum 30 credit hours at a post-secondary institution where the primary instruction language is English.
