What all courses are available to international students?

 

Centennial College offers both full-time and part-time courses. The international students have the option of selecting from almost 160 programs. Along with degree and graduate certificate programs, the students can even opt for fast-track programs, English language learning and foundation programs. Courses:

At Centennial, there are more courses available for graduate certificate programs as compared to the degree programs as the college provides employment-focused education. The international students have the option of selecting fast-track programs where they can obtain block transfer of credits for previous education at post-secondary level, thereby completing a diploma earlier than the expected time.

Research:

With an aim to develop ability to innovate among the students, Centennial College has the Applied Research and Innovation Centre (ARIC) where students get the opportunity to tackle complex problems creatively and develop market-ready solutions. These research projects are mainly funded by federal and Ontario government.

 

Eligibility & Documents Required

 

What are the eligibility requirements?

 

The eligibility requirements vary as per the program applied for. However, every international applicant (from non-English speaking countries) needs to provide proof of English proficiency by any one of the following ways:

Basic Honours Bachelor Degree Requirements:

For courses under this degree program, an applicant needs a minimum of six Grade12 University or Middle-level courses with an overall average of 65 per cent or higher. There could be some subject specific requirements depending on the course applied for.

Basic Graduate Certificate Program Requirements:

To prove eligibility for graduate certificates, an applicant requires a three-year diploma or a degree in the related field from an accredited college or university. The applicants who have two-year diploma or partially completed (minimum 75 per cent) university degree or a minimum work experience of two years in the relevant field can also be considered eligible for the program. For few programs, the applicant is required to attend a mandatory program admission session which will include assessments to verify candidate’s suitability for the program.

Fast-Track Program Requirements:

As Centennial College offers fast-track programs in myriad fields, the basic requirements differ as per the field applied for. However, in almost all the courses, applicants must have three-year college diploma or university degree in any stream. For these programs, Centennial College English Skills Assessment is also a mandatory eligibility criterion.

What documents are needed for the application?

 

Along with a completed online application form, the international applicant from India needs to send the scanned copies of Transcripts of Study and the other required application documents directly to bangalore@centennialcollege.ca..

As far as other required documents are concerned, some documents are common for all courses while others are specific to a particular course type.

Apart from the above-mentioned documents, application to some programs may require standardized tests from the home country, resume, letter of interest, portfolio or online program information session.

Application & Tuition Fees

 

Is there any application fees?

 

There is no fee for applying to Centennial College. An international applicant needs to apply online, fill the application and submit it without paying any application fee.

 

What is the fee structure of courses offered by the college?

 

For availing full-time Centennial education, the international students who will pursue certificates or diplomas may have to pay annual tuition and fee of around CAD 17,409.30. The students opting for degree programs may have to spend around CAD 20,489 on tuition and fee annually. This fee may vary as few charges are applicable only to first-year students. As far as tuition cost of part-time courses are concerned, the international students will have to spend between CAD 29.46 and CAD 38.11 per contact hour.

For making tuition fee payments, the international students can use either wire transfer or credit card payment from any of the Centennial’s international education payment processors such as Flywire, Global Pay for Students and CIBC International Student Pay.

In case, an international student decides not to study at Centennial College after accepting the admission offer, a non-refundable tuition fee of approximately CAD 2,650 will be charged.

 

Scholarships & Financial Aid

 

Is there any scholarship or financial aid available for international students?

 

For an international student, there is a provision of partial scholarships and bursaries after the first year of study. To be eligible for this merit-based scholarship, the student needs to successfully complete two consecutive semesters. The scholarship is awarded on the basis of academic merit, sports, athletics and leadership. As they are provided by employers, organizations and individuals, there could be more criteria for awarding this scholarship; these details are updated by the college from time to time. As far as financial assistance is concerned, Centennial College does not offer grants or loans for international students. The international students can avail the financial assistance options from their home country.

 

Admission Process

 

When do the admissions start?

 

Centennial College offers programs in three intakes. The Fall intake starts in September, the Winter in January and Summer in May. The college emphasizes on applying as early as possible. The application process begins approximately four to six months before the program’s expected start date. Applying early can help the international student to get sufficient time to complete both admission and visa processing formalities. In case, the student applies closer to the start date, the chances of acceptance will still be there if the seat is available in that particular program.

Note: The start date of programs varies as per the duration of the course; therefore, it is recommended that students confirm the exact start date from the course page on the official website.

 

What are the steps to the application process?

 

The application process of Centennial College involves the following steps:

  • Start by choosing the program from the list of college programs
  • Fill the Centennial College online application form
  • Create a PIN (Personal Identification Number) by submitting the application form
  • Complete the form by filling out the few remaining sections of the application

Email the scanned copies of transcript and other required documents to bangalore@centennialcollege.ca

  • Check the application status by contacting the Regional Admissions team members and providing the details such as name, date of birth and the student number
  • Upon receiving an acceptance package, secure the seat by paying registration deposit and tuition fees before the deadline mentioned in the offer letter

Note: The college will inform the applicant in case any other supporting documents are required for the application process. The hard copies of original documents, passport and study permit will be required by the Centennial College International Centre at the time of student’s arrival at the college.

 

How do I start my application?

 

In order to initiate the application process at Centennial College, the international students need to complete Centennial College online application form.

The portal will help in creating new account as well as checking the application status later on.

The international applicants need to select ‘New Applicants’ in order to create new application.  Then, they have to select the application type before clicking ‘Apply’ button.

The next step will require the students to fill the basic information divided into following subheadings:

  • Personal Information, including name, gender, date of birth, email address and aboriginal person indicator
  • Mailing Address, including street line, house number, city, country, country and area code, and phone number
  • Available Programs requiring program name, campus name, start date, semester and program choice
  • Citizenship and Immigration Status, including status in Canada and citizenship
  • Agent Information, including name, address and email of the agent (skip this information in case of no agent involved in the process)
  • Contact in Canada requiring contact details in Canada (skip it if not applicable)
  • Other Information requiring the applicant to authorization of information to be released to applicant’s contact in Canada as well as agreement to the terms

Once the applicant submits the form, an Application Number is generated and PIN needs to be selected. After this, applicant will once again submit the application and no changes can be made to the basic information after this.

The next step in the application process is important as the college will send an email asking for sending the scanned copies of transcripts and other required documents to bangalore@centennialcollege.ca. Once the scanned documents are emailed, the processing of the application begins.

 

When will I hear from the college after I submit my application?

 

After submitting the application and sending scanned required documents, an international student can expect the college to take around 14 business days to process the application. While the reviewing process goes on, the student should keep a check on the emails as assessment of the application will be communicated via email. The communication regarding whether a student’s application is accepted or rejected will be communicated within five to seven days. In case, no communication is received even seven days after applying, an international student should contact the admission officer representing India.

Can I work while studying here?

 

Centennial College permits the international students to work both on and off-campus. The students can get in touch with Centennial College’s Career Services and Co-operative Education department that not only helps them in looking for job opportunities but also guides them regarding career planning, resume, interview preparation etc.

Is on-campus housing available? How much does it cost?

 

Yes, the on-campus housing is available for all the international students. The students can opt for official college housing that is Centennial Place or can live off-campus. The Centennial Place offers not just residence but also a vibrant student community where the students can engage in various other activities, including health and wellness.

The international students who decide to choose on-campus residence need to pay deposit money in advance. They are required to meet all the requirements of the housing contract. Centennial College prefers that the students should have their accommodation arranged before the program starts.

When it comes to the cost of housing, the cost varies as per the number of rooms and sharing options. For two-bed/one-bath shared bedroom, the cost can be around CAD 971 per instalment/per person. This cost will increase as per additional rooms, features and amenities.

The students can also opt for off-campus housing. They can take help from Places4Students Inc., an off-campus housing service company, which works in association with the Centennial College Student Association Inc. (CCSAI). The students can choose houses from the database and can contact the landlords accordingly. For an international student, the basic rent for an off-campus residence can be around CAD 500-1,200 per month as per the estimates of 2018 available on the college’s official website.

For an international student, there are few other expenses such as food, clothing, mobile, transportation, personal items, and entertainment.
