Research:

Concordia University has 22 research units, providing research and training in a wide range of areas such as Human Rights, Preventive Health, Digital Arts and Synthetic Biology. Eligibility & Documents Required

 

What are the eligibility requirements?

 

In order to be eligible for undergraduate programs at Concordia University, international students are required to achieve good grades and complete the level of education mentioned below:

  • All-India Senior School Certificate or Pre-University Certificate or Higher Secondary Certificate or Intermediate Certificate or Indian School Certificate or Higher School Certificate

  • If already in school, results of previous terms and a list of current courses

  • IELTS Academic: An overall band score of 7 or better, with no component score under 5.5

  • TOEFL iBT: Minimum overall score of 90 or higher; with a minimum combined score of 34 for writing and speaking

  • PTE Academic: Minimum overall score of 61 or higher; with a minimum combined score of 46 for writing and speaking

  • Duolingo English Test: DET score of 120 and above with no subscore under 90
  • Letter of intent, interviews, portfolios and audition for some programs

For graduate level, there is a minimum cumulative grade point average requirement which is as follows:

  • For master’s degree, diploma and graduate certificate programs, a bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) with high standing (Honors, a GPA equivalent to a B average, and specialization)

  • For doctoral programs, a master’s degree (or equivalent) with high standing (Honors or a GPA equivalent to a B average) 

  • English language proficiency requirements as per the program applied for as every faculty has its minimum acceptable language scores

What all documents are needed for application?

 

After submitting the online application, international students need to submit documents as per the program applied for. There are a few general documents which are required for every program. For some programs, additional documents may be required. The documents can be uploaded in pdf, jpeg, tif, jpg, gif, bmp, doc, docx, rtf, and txt formats. The maximum file size should be 5 MB. The maximum limit for file names is 64 characters.

Undergraduate Programs:

For undergraduate program application, international students are required to upload an unofficial copy of transcripts from all previous institutions. The unofficial transcript should include full name, date of birth, school name, years attended, courses with grades and the school’s grading scale. The official transcripts are needed, once admitted. Another required document for international students is English language proficiency scores. Besides, letter of intent, portfolio or other additional documents might be required for application to some programs at Concordia University.

Graduate Programs:

While applying for graduate programs, international students require official transcripts and English language proficiency score report as mandatory documents. Some programs might require additional documents such as Letters of Recommendation (LOR), Curriculum Vitae (CV) and Statement of Purpose (SOP)

Application & Tuition Fees

 

Is there any application fees?

 

For applying to Concordia University, CAD 100 is charged as a non-refundable application fee which can be paid by a valid debit or credit card.  The university accepts Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Discover for credit cards; Scotiabank, Bank of Montreal, Royal Bank or TD Canada Trust are accepted for debit cards.

 

What is the fee structure of courses offered by the university?

 

The fee structure of courses at Concordia University includes tuition, compulsory fee, health and dental plans as well as international health insurance. For every international student, health and dental insurance plan is mandatory and can cost approximately CAD 1,176 per academic year. For international students, there could be few other expenses such as CAD 2,250 for books and supplies, CAD 424 for transportation (with student discount), and CAD 800 for other utilities.

Scholarships & Financial Aid

 

Is there any scholarship or financial aid available for international students?

 

At Concordia University, a number of scholarships and financial aids with varying criteria are available for international students. The scholarships are mainly based on academic achievement, community involvement, financial need and participation in other activities. Every year, the university brings out scholarships and awards which the students can check from the latest bulletins on awards and apply accordingly. The scholarships, which are available for undergraduate international students starting Fall 2021 semester, are as follows:

Concordia Presidential Scholarship

This merit-based scholarship is given only to international students who are studying full time in an undergraduate program and attending the university for the first time. This scholarship, which covers tuition and fees, books and living costs based on Concordia’s residency rate, is awarded on the basis of academic excellence and community leadership. 

Concordia International Scholars

This scholarship supports full-time international students who have shown resilience and maintained academic excellence by overcoming personal hardships. Awarded to only students who are attending the university for the first time, this scholarship is given only to two students from any faculty. This scholarship will cover tuition and fees and can be renewed up to four years, provided the students meet all renewal requirements. 

Entrance Scholarships

The graduate students are automatically considered for these scholarships, provided they meet the eligibility criteria. Concordia University offers competitive funding packages, allowing students to focus on their research and studies. The four-year funding package is typically offered to Doctoral students. These packages are often topped up by teaching and research assistantships.

Admission Process

 

When do the admissions start?

 

The academic year at Concordia University consists of three terms, namely, Fall, Winter and Summer terms. The application deadlines for international graduate applicants each term are as follows:

Concordia University Application Deadline

For undergraduate admissions, Concordia considers complete applications round the year. However, priority is given to the applicants who apply according to the official deadlines. For international applicants, February 1 is the Fall term deadline for most of the programs and September 1 is the deadline for Winter term, which has only a few programs available.

International applicants are strongly encouraged by the university to apply early and submit required documents prior to the deadline.

What are the steps to the application process? Does this involve an interview round?

 

The application process at Concordia University involves the following steps:

Step 1: Applicants will start the process by selecting the program of study. Undergraduate applicants can put three program choices on the application.

Step 2: Then, they are required to gather and prepare the documents as per the minimum admission requirements as well as program-specific requirements according to their programs.

Step 3: Graduate applicants must select the referees who can provide reference letters and assist in filing academic assessment forms.

Step 4: Graduate applicants who have chosen thesis option must find a research thesis supervisor for their application. 

Step 5: Then, applicants will fill the online application and upload the required documents. 

Step 6: Then, they will pay the application fee and submit the application.

Step 7: They must check the application status on My Student Center.

Step 8: If admitted, applicants must secure the seat by accepting the offer.

 

 

How do I start my application?

 

International applicants can initiate the online application by creating a Concordia Netname account which can be used for more than one session to complete the application. For requesting a Netname, the applicants will read the security policy and accept it. The new Netname will be created at:

Step 1: The applicants will have to fill identity-related information such as name, date of birth, mailing address, email address, phone number and fill the verification code received on the email.

Step 2: After submitting the above-mentioned form, the university will provide a Netname along with the password, using which applicants can log into their Concordia account and start by clicking ‘Admission Application’.

Step 3: Applicants will then have to answer a few multiple-choice questions related to the level of study applied for, most recent educational history, and selection of term. 

Step 4: After this, the applicants will have to fill the following sections:

  • Address and Phone, requiring personal details such as name, citizenship status, date of birth, gender, birth information, phone numbers, home address and email address

  • Academic Program/Plans, requiring the type of program applied for and preferred specialization

  • Other Info, including a list of academic honours, distinctions and achievements along with details of any educational gaps

  • Academic History, including a list of all the academic institutions attended, including high school, college, and university

  • Attachments, requiring the applicants to upload the supporting documents

  • Submit, requiring agreement to few conditions and submission of the application

Step 5: The applicants will receive a confirmation email along with an eight-digit student ID number and a pdf copy of the application within 24 hours of submission. 

Step 6: The applicants can also upload the required documents after submitting the application through My Student Center on MyConcordia.

 

When will I hear from the university after I submit my application?

 

After submitting the application, Concordia University may take up to ten working days to update the application file. There are no specific dates for admission decisions. As per the university, admission process varies for each student and each program. If the program has additional requirements such as an audition, a portfolio, and an interview, the admission committee will review the application only after the official application deadline. The international applicants may receive admission offers between February and May for Fall admission and from September to mid-November for Winter admission.

Concordia University does not guarantee admission on meeting the minimum admission requirements. The university considers a holistic academic profile along with supporting documents such as Letters of Recommendation (LOR), Curriculum Vitae (CV) and Statement of Purpose (SOP) while making admission decisions. As per the estimate of 2019-2020, 36,473 students were enrolled in undergraduate credit courses with 18,890 females and 17,583 males; among 9,604 total students enrolled for graduate credit courses, 4,257 were females and 5,347 were males. In order to have better chances of admission at Concordia University, international students must maintain an excellent academic average.

 

How many Indian/international students are studying at the university?

 

Offering a multicultural environment, Concordia University includes approximately 22 per cent international students representing more than 160 countries. As per the student enrolment of 2019-2020, among a total of 46,000, more than 10,000 were international students. The university ensures international students’ retention and success through its International Student & Scholar Services Team. The university also offers various academic and financial support necessary to smooth out the transition of international students.

Part Time Work While Studying

 

Can I work while studying here?

 

At Concordia University, international students can work both on- and off-campus, provided they have a valid study permit and Social Insurance Number.

On-Campus Employment

International students, who are enrolled in a full-time program, can work on campus. They can also opt for a work-study program, available to full-time students only. This program helps fund part-time jobs on campus for students having financial need. The eligible students can work at administrative, research or technical positions and for up to 20 hours per week to a maximum of 200 hours per semester. Off-Campus Employment

Full-time international students can choose to work off-campus if they are enrolled in a program which is at least six months in duration. They are allowed to work up to 20 hours per week during regular academic sessions and full time during scheduled breaks.

Is on-campus housing available?

 

Concordia University provides on-campus housing in the residences, offering a lively ambience with students from diverse communities. The cost of a room in a residence, which varies by the floor plan, will be between CAD 3,850 and CAD 8,200 per academic year. The meal plan, which is mandatory for the students living in Concordia residency will be approximately CAD 4,975 per year. 

International students can also opt for off-campus housing by renting in Montreal. The monthly rent for off-campus housing can be approximately CAD 900. Concordia University has partnered with Places4Students where international students can search for available renting places. They can also search for off-campus housing at the Concordia Student Union’s Off-Campus Housing and Job Bank.
