Fanshawe College has Centre for Research and Innovation which involves students and faculty researchers, and link them with industry, business and community partners in order to develop innovative research projects. Eligibility & Documents Required

 

What are the eligibility requirements?

 

The minimum eligibility requirement for admission to Fanshawe College depends on the course applied for. The admission requirement for post-secondary programs is high school diploma along with some subject-level percentage specifications. For post-graduate programs, a college diploma, university degree or equivalent along with applied work experience of two years for some courses is required. International students applying for bachelor degree programs are required to have final minimum average of 65 per cent based on highest six Grade 12 courses.

Along with program-specific requirements, every international applicant (from non-English speaking countries) needs to provide proof of English proficiency by undertaking any one of the English proficiency tests such as IELTS Academic exam, TOEFL, Pearson Test of English (Academic) and Duolingo English Test (DET). Note: International students who are applying through Student Direct Stream (SDS) program has the IELTS requirement of overall 6.0 (no single score below 6.0). For other specifications, the applicants are recommended to visit the exact course page of the official website and check the ‘Admission Requirements’.

 

What all documents are needed for application?

 

For applying to Fanshawe College, international applicants are required to attach scanned copies of all the relevant supporting documents with the application. All the required documents must be in Word, pdf, tiff or jpeg format.

For post-secondary and post-graduate certificate programs, college transcripts and/or diploma or university transcripts are needed. For some courses, applicants need to attach a resume and a cover letter that includes details of work experience.

For bachelor degree programs, high school transcripts are needed. The detailed course content of theory and laboratory exercises must be included with a transcript.

Along with above-mentioned documents, international applicants are required to submit the result of English language proficiency tests.

Application & Tuition Fees

 

Is there any application fees?

 

There is an application fee of CAD 100 for applying to Fanshawe College. The payment of application fee can be made by credit card (Visa or MasterCard only) or bank wire transfer (Flywire). The application fee amount is applied to tuition when the student begins classes.

 

What is the fee structure of courses offered by the college?

 

The students enrolled at Fanshawe College are required to pay the fee due per term. The international students are expected to pay the total fee which is a combination of tuition fees, ancillary fees, program-specific fees and co-op fees (if applicable). As per the estimate of Fanshawe International book, 2020-2021, the fees payable by international students for a year ranges from CAD 16,000 to CAD 18,000 for most programs. The tuition fees vary by program with much higher fees for courses such as Aviation and Renewable Energies. International students are also charged for health insurance on an annual basis. The mode of fee payment for international students is Flywire by peerTransfer.

More than just a seat in the class, Fanshawe College’s tuition cost includes few perks such as a bus pass, health and dental insurance, Fanshawe Cares Arrival and Accommodation Services, fitness membership and access to athletic events and more than 200 clubs and events every year.

The program-specific yearly estimate of the total fee, inclusive of tuition fees, ancillary fees and other fees for the year 2021-2022 is given below:

In case, international students decide to withdraw the admission, they can request the refund by emailing intrefund@fanshawec.ca within ten business days before the semester of the post-secondary program begins and within five business days before EAP starts.
If the students submit withdrawal request ten days after the starting of the semester, reimbursement of only subsequent semester fees paid will be done. International students who arrive in Canada and want to withdraw the admission must request a withdrawal or refund in person by attending one of the withdrawal sessions organized at Fanshawe College.

Scholarships & Financial Aid

 

Is there any scholarship or financial aid available for international students?

 

Fanshawe College provides various scholarships which are exclusively for international students. The scholarships available for international students are listed below:

International Entrance Scholarships

This scholarship is available for students who have recently graduated from high school and accepted offer of admission at Fanshawe College. These scholarships are given for specific programs and students are evaluated on the basis of overall admission average and other program-specific requirements. The students do not need to apply for these types of scholarships.

In-Course Scholarships

These scholarships are available to full-time international visa students with a valid study permit. The students should have successfully completed their first year and achieved a CGPA of 3.0. The students’ active participation in various college activities is also considered for this scholarship.

Study Abroad Scholarships

These scholarships allow the eligible students to complete a portion of their studies abroad.

Admission Process

 

When do the admissions start?

 

Fanshawe College has three main terms: Fall, Winter and Spring. The online applications open in early October. The college starts receiving applications by mid-October and all the applications received by February 1 are given equal consideration in the admission process. However, applications received after February 1 are considered on a first-come, first-served basis. Fanshawe College starts making admission offers from February 1 itself till mid-March.

What are the steps to the application process? Does this involve an interview round?

 

The application process of Fanshawe College involves the following steps:

  • Select the preferred program and confirm its availability
  • Start the online application available at internationalapplication.fanshawec.ca/user/register
  • Students from India will be directed to send email at indiaapp@fanshawec.ca
  • Arrange the scanned copies of required documents according to the preferred course
  • Pay the application fee of CAD 100 by credit card or bank wire transfer
  • Wait for your letter of admission
  • Secure the seat by confirming interest in the college and paying tuition fees within 30 days of receiving a letter of admission

How do I start my application?

 

For applying at Fanshawe College, international applicants need to set up an account for filing an online application:

To start with the application, international applicants need to provide an email address and nationality details.

 

When the applicants mention the nationality as Indian, they will be asked not to apply directly. Indian students who are applying for a post-secondary program at Fanshawe are required to email at indiaapp@fanshawec.ca. Fanshawe representative in India will help with the application as the college do not process a direct application from India.

 

When will I hear from the college after I submit my application?

 

Fanshawe College begins processing of the application as soon as the applications are submitted. However, the college does not make admissions decisions for September, January, March or May start dates until after February 1 each year. Till February 1, all applications are considered on an equal basis. The earliest offers dates range from February to mid-March. The selected students are required to confirm the offer of admission by May 1. If there are any admission conditions, the students are required to send the proof of completion three weeks prior to the beginning of the classes.

What are the chances to get into this college?

 

The admission process at Fanshawe College can be quite competitive. The college admits all eligible candidates who apply by equal consideration deadline of February 1. After this deadline, eligible candidates are accepted according to seat availability. If the program is full, a waitlist is started. When the number of eligible candidates exceeds available seat, applicants are selected on the basis of points system known as admission grid which includes academic achievement and supplemental criteria such as audition, portfolio or forms.

Among 43,000 total students, Fanshawe College has approximately 7,700 international students from more than 100 countries. The college is dedicated to providing services and support to all international students. The college’s International Center also has admission representative in countries such as China, India, Korea, Vietnam, Africa, Turkey, Russia, Ukraine and more. 

 

 

Part Time Work While Studying

 

Can I work while studying here?

 

The registered full-time international students at Fanshawe College are eligible to work both on-campus and off-campus, provided they have a valid study permit and Social Insurance Number.

The students who opt for on-campus employment can work at all the buildings of the college campus. International students may run a business that is physically located on-campus or work at library, hospital or research facility associated with the college.

International students can start on-campus work only when the study program begins. Also, they are required to stop working on-campus on the day they stop studying full-time.

For an off-campus employment, international students need to have a study program which is at least six month long and leads to degree, diploma or certificate. During the regular school term, an international student with off-campus employment can work up to 20 hours per week. A full-time student is allowed to work full time during scheduled breaks.

Is on-campus housing available?

 

Fanshawe College offers on-campus student housing options at Fanshawe Residence. The student can choose between traditional apartment-style residence rooms and townhouse rooms at the London campus.

As per the estimate of September 2020, the cost of traditional residences was CAD 9,190, including CAD 250 as security deposit and CAD 1,200 for a mandatory meal plan. At townhouse residence, the cost of Standard Bedroom (double bed) was CAD 7,585 or small bedroom (single bed) CAD 7,250, including a CAD 250 as a security deposit for September 2020. The meal plan is not required in townhouse residences.

International students can also choose off-campus residences such as homestays or rented houses. Fanshawe College is associated with Canada Homestay Network, which can help international students in finding a welcoming home and adjusting to their new life in Canada. The students can also search for rented accommodation at Fanshawe online rental listings or by using college’s off-campus housing services.

Note: International students must verify the exact cost from the college or the specific landlord before deciding on the accommodation. For an international student, there are few other expenses such as textbooks, computer, food, entertainment and others, which may range from CAD 10,000 to CAD 12,000.
