What all courses are available to international students?

McMaster is home to a variety of courses in multiple disciplines varying from Arts and Science to Business and Health Sciences. The students learn in a multicultural environment with complete focus on research and innovation where their creativity is enhanced to achieve excellence. What are the eligibility requirements?

McMaster University has different admission requirements depending on the curriculum pursued by the student. There are nine common curriculums that are considered by McMaster University, wherein for Indian students the eligibility requirements are listed below:

Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE)

In case the student doesn’t meet the English language requirements, the student can still apply to the course after completion of the MELD program which is a one-year Diploma which focuses on the enhancement of English language skills.

Application & Tuition Fees

What is the fee structure of courses offered by the university?

The fee structure differs depending on the faculties. There are 17 faculties for UG and 11 faculties for PG courses. Also, the university demands course and supplementary fees separately. The student needs to pay both. The table below presents the tuition fees based on faculties, these do not include recreational, lab and other fees as these vary from course to course.

Scholarships & Financial Aid

Is there any scholarship or financial aid available for international students?

Understanding the importance of tuition, cost of living and scholarships, the university offers multiple scholarships which are merit and need-based. For need-based scholarship, a student needs to enrol in the Ontario Student Assistance Program (OSAP) by 30 June. This program provides loans and grants for full-time and part-time students. The student needs to fill in a form to apply for the same for which the decision is made in a day’s time. What sort of support does the university extend to students?

Reaching out to help its students, McMaster helps in immigration advice as well. In case your visa needs an extension or you need to understand how it works, or its rejection, the advice is available for all the issues. Further, as a student, you gain extended support in fellowships, international co-ops, internships, teaching English and volunteering services. Adjusting at McMaster is not a problem at all due to its diversity in the students’ crowd. However, support from the university is extended through global opportunities program where any student can reach out for advice or support.

Part Time Work While Studying

Can I work while studying here?

McMaster offers a work program to assure you earn while you learn for students with financial needs wherein the part-time working hours are 10 hours a week and full-time working hours are a maximum of 40 hours a week during the summer. The program ensures job opportunities in profiles in administration, coordination and customer support in 100 different offices.

The eligibility criteria include:

  • Students enrolled in full-time courses

  • First-year international students are not eligible for the Fall/Winter program but for summer after the first year

  • A valid study permit

  • Demonstration of financial need through OSAP

  • A student can participate or enrol for only one work program position at a time 

  • The wages are paid on an hourly basis and thus, a student can work to a max of 10 hours a week in part-time and 40 hours a week full-time (during summer)

  • The time taken for the decision to be eligible for the work program is one day.


A student stands ineligible for this program if:

  • Not returning in the succeeding fall/winter

  • Unable to demonstrate financial need

  • He/she is a CCE (continuing education) student

  • Enrolled in a part-time course


Co-op internship

You can apply for a co-op internship allowing you 40 hours a week of work. You need to apply for a co-op work permit for that which can be done online or on paper:

Post completion of the degree you can apply for a post-graduate work permit for which you need to go through the requirements by Canadian immigration. This can be done if:

  • Your study permit is still valid

  • You opted for a full-time course

  • You did not exceed the number of work hours as a student


In case the application is rejected, you are required to leave the country on priority.
