Located in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, Ryerson University (RyeU) is a public research university whose history is rooted in innovative, career-driven education to address current societal needs. It was established in the late-1940s due to the demand for skilled tradespeople following the Second World War. RyeU is built on the historical site of Ontario’s first teacher training college (Toronto Normal School). Its urban campus surrounds the Yonge–Dundas Square, which is located at one of the busiest intersections in downtown Toronto. Initially, as a post-secondary institute designed to combine technical education with academic theory, it offered theoretical and practical training in various skilled trades such as Architecture, Costume Design, and Photography. It is now dedicated to creating a culture of action and offers over 100 undergraduate and graduate programs across significant fields of study. Its advantageous location helps students connect with leaders in culture, business, health care, or government. Classroom learning is enhanced by real-world knowledge through internships and co-ops or zone learning, specialized minors, and graduate programs. Zone learning is a unique experiential program pioneered by RyeU where students work with like-minded individuals from diverse disciplines and community groups.
