Trent University is one among the top well-recognized public universities situated in Canada. In 1964, Ontario Premier John Robarts gave his approval for opening a new university in the area, which came to be known as Trent University. Initially, it welcomed about 100 students, which later increased to 250 in the subsequent year. In addition, Robarts revealed that between 1964 and 1966, the government will finance university's expenditures worth $2 million. He also announced that the university will cater to diverse requirements, and hence, offer different programs in the sciences and arts. In 1964, President Symons announced the development of a 3-phase plan for Trent's campus spread over 1460 acres, which was slated for completion over 18 years.

Trent University Durham GTA, which is located in Oshawa, offers different professional programs in social sciences and arts, apart from offering hands-on-experiences to its students.
