Established in 1908, the University of British Columbia is an open research university. Based on the founder of the university, Henry Marshall Tory, a medal of his name was brought into existence in 1941. Recently, the university is recognized as the most international university in North America. It has a motto that says, “It is Yours”. This motto was declared in 1915 and commits to support innovation of ideas, discovery, and learning. The motive is to encourage the students and create new concepts that bring remarkable changes in the world. By the 20th century, the university began to offer a degree in the field of nursing, agriculture, and engineering. Also, it introduced the American model of specialization and a research thesis.

Located in Point Grey, the university comprises of two campuses, one in Vancouver and the other in Okanagan. The main campus is in Vancouver and is spread across 400 acres of land. The campus is covered with greenery all over. It houses some popular centers like the Chan Centre for Performing Arts, Centre for Interactive Research in Sustainability, UBC Welcome Centre and UBC Centre for Plant Research. Few of the departments that are found at the campus include Faculty of Arts, Faculty of Dentistry, Faculty of Law and Faculty of Science. Okanagan Campus is known to be home to the center of research and learning. Both campuses organize many cultural activities and events.

The university offers undergraduate degree programs, postgraduate degree programs, joint academic programs, exchange programs, and distance education programs. UBC has a notable list of alumni that includes Justin Trudeau (Current Prime of Canada), Kim Campbell (19th Prime Minister and the 1st to serve in office), William Gibson (significant figure in Cyberpunk movement), Bjarni Tryggvason (Astronaut), David Suzuki (Broadcaster and Environmentalist), Monica Lam (Founder of Moka5) and Evangeline Lily (Actress).

Best engineering and business program in Canada

Tips: Students joining this college should know it has high fees structure, vibrant campus community and abundance of opportunities to grow. It is always rainy here but gives lot of exposure, high research output and has supportive faculty. There is huge campus, good food options with high living cost and one of the best engineering and business program in Canada

Value for money, It has the memories, experience and opportunities

Tips: This university will you give you lifetime of memories and skills that will help you in life, beyond your chosen career. You will find innumerable opportunities to explore your capabilities and use them in life. There are several clubs and design teams that you can join, which will really add up to your resume. There is also a good advantage of developing your network here since there are always new guest lecturers, workshops, seminars, etc. happening on campus.

Q. How many international students are enrolled across UBC’s campuses?

A. From a total of 56,936 students at Vancouver campus only 27.2% of them are international. While out of 11,562 students enrolled at Okanagan campus, 20.9% of the students are international. 

Q. Can I apply for admission to UBC in the last year of study?

A. Yes, UBC accepts applications from final year students and in case their scores aren’t available, UBC allows a window through which final scores can be submitted so that applications are assessed. Check: UBC Admissions

A. International students can apply for accommodation at UBC by applying online along with the admission form. The students must be 19 years or above in age in order to be eligible to apply for housing.

A. International applicants are automatically eligible for a fee waiver and they do not need to apply for the waiver separately.

Q. What scholarships are awarded to international students at UBC?

A. For international students who portray exceptionally well academic scores are entitled for either International Major Entrance Scholarship or Outstanding International Student Award. Both these scholarships are awarded to undergraduate students awarded in their first year of joining and applications are accepted in January on the 15th annually.
