Q. Why should you study at the University of Guelph?

A. The University of Guelph is recognised as a learner-focused, research-intensive university sought after by students all across the globe for courses in arts and sciences, agricultural and veterinary sciences, and business. Out of 29,507 undergraduate and graduate students, 1700 international students are from 130 plus countries. It also has the largest integrated science teaching and research facility in North America.

Q. How far is the University of Guelph from Toronto?

A. One can reach the University of Guelph in an hour’s drive from Toronto. Also, students can avail GO bus transit that connects the Greater Toronto area and Mississauga and the university centre. The buses run hourly, throughout the day on weekdays.

Q. What all English Proficiency Test scores are considered for admission at the University of Guelph?

A. If your first language is not English, you’ll have to give proof of your hold on the language by presenting any of the following scores:
  • IELTS (academic)
  • Canadian Academic English Language (CAEL) Test
  • TOEFL / TOEFL iBT (special home edition)
  • Pearson Test of English
  • Duolingo English Test

Q. Can I still apply if my Class 12th result is awaited?

A. Yes, you can apply if you’ve appeared for the Class 12th Board exam and the result is awaited. For that, you will have to present your verified Class 10th Board results along with the anticipated Class 12th scores (minimum 80% required). In May/June, you will have to submit Class 12 Board certificate with the first division.

Q. Can I apply for the UG courses at the University of Guelph only online?

A. Yes, you have 3 options. You can either apply directly to the University of Guelph by filling up the online form at admission.uoguelph.ca or you may apply online through Ontario universities’ application centre (OUAC). 

Q. Are there any entrance scholarships available for international students at the University of Guelph?

A. Yes, there are many scholarships that are available for students residing abroad. If you hold an excellent academic record and have contributed as a leader towards your school or community, you can apply for Dr. Franco J. Vaccarino President’s Scholarship. If approved, you’ll get a scholarship amount of $42,000. In case you’re among the top international students but your application gets rejected, you may be awarded International Academic  Leadership  Entrance Scholarships.

Q. Is there any part-time job available for funding my education at the University of Guelph?

A. In case you need support funding your education, many part-time work options are available at the University of Guelph for your convenience. Over 4,000 on-campus job options are available. Students can opt for working at athletics centres, campus food joints or departmental stores on the campus. You may also apply for Work-Study funding in the 2nd yr of university.

Q. Is self-funding required to obtain a student permit?

A. Yes, as per immigration Canada, you are required to possess sufficient funds to pay 1 full year’s tuition fees and living expenses. Only if you fulfil this condition will you get a study visa.

Q. Is COVID vaccine mandatory for all new university students at the University of Guelph? What if I’ve reached Canada without being vaccinated?

A. Yes, as per the University of Guelph guidelines, vaccination is mandatory for all the students, staff and faculty members. If you’re coming from abroad without vaccination, you can get the same in Canada itself.

Q. Can students apply for part-time studies at the University of Guelph? What are the requirements?

A. Yes, one may apply for part-time studies at the University of Guelph and no special or separate admission criteria has been mandated. Those interested in a degree program should be holding a degree in pre-requisite courses and relevant marks. One may opt for any number of courses.

Q. Is a refund possible if the study permit is denied by Immigration and Citizenship Canada (IRCC)?

A. Yes, in case your study permit is denied, you may ask for a refund of tuition and fees
