Founded in 1877, the University of Manitoba (U of M) is a public university based in Manitoba, Canada. Academic Ranking of World Universities (Shanghai Ranking) has consistently placed Manitoba University between 301-400 from 2017 to 2020. QS (Top universities) has downgraded the university's position from 501-500 in 2017 to 601-650 in 2019. However, since 2019 the university has maintained its place at 601-650 in QS' world university ranking.

Times Higher Education (THE) has gradually improved U of M's position in its best university ranking from 401-500 in 2019 to 351-400 in 2021. This is a sharp improvement of 100 points. It reflects that the university has performed on key parameters like teaching, research, and citation (research influence). US News & World Report has placed the university's 388th position in 2020 and 390th rank in 2021 in its global universities ranking.
