The University of Regina (U of R) was established in 1911 as Regina College by the Methodist Church. Soon, it became a campus of the University of Saskatchewan, and in 1974, it gained the independent status of a degree-granting university. University of Regina Courses Offered

What all courses are available to international students?

U of R offers more than 120 undergraduate and 80 graduate programs, including various specialized programs such as Police Studies and Public Policy. In Fall 2011, the university accepted applications for its newly launched Nursing program offered jointly with Saskatchewan Polytechnic – the Saskatchewan Collaborative Bachelor of Science in Nursing Program (SCBScN). This degree is offered in Regina and Saskatoon campuses with local cohort intakes in Swift Current and North Battleford. It is also the only bilingual nursing option in the province that offers 50 percent of its classes in French. The university also provides a Collaborative Nurse Practitioner Program (CNPP) master’s degree option. Being the first Canadian university to offer a Bachelor of Arts degree in Police Studies, it has several partnerships with police services in the province and beyond. Apart from this, it has various interdisciplinary degree programs, including the Creative Technologies interdisciplinary program. This program aims to bring together artists, scientists, and cultural theorists who can choose courses from the fields of Engineering, Computer Science, and Fine Arts.

English as a Second Language Program (ESL)

Students who do not meet the English requirement and receive a conditional acceptance letter need to undergo this program. It aims to integrate all language skills, such as listening, speaking, reading, and writing through a theme-based curriculum. Classes are held on campus with an average class size of 16 students. The ESL program offers:

• Visit the official website of the university and go through the type of undergraduate courses available for international students. Make up your mind about the course which suits your liking.
• Open the online application portal for undergraduate admission and complete the form.
• Overseas applicants need to pay an application fee of CAD 100. The payment can be done via credit card and Flywire. If the applicants do not possess a credit card they can visit the university's payment portal and transfer funds.

How to apply for PG admission at the U of R?

• Visit the university's official page and filter the program which holds your interest. Read the course description, duration, eligibility requirements, tuition fees, etc.
• In order to apply for graduate admission, one will need transcripts, references, resume and letter of intent, test scores (if required), and supplementary material (if required).
• There are a few courses which require the student to connect with a supervisor before applying for admission. So all those who are pursuing their PhD will need a supervisor. University of Regina International Entrance Scholarship

This scholarship covers up to CAD 2,00,000 annually. Undergraduate aspirants with a study permit are awarded CAD 3,000 by default. They can choose to receive this amount either as tuition reimbursement or eight months of free residence at the university. Students applying for admission directly from a secondary school (or equivalent) into a direct-entry undergraduate program are eligible for this scholarship. Additionally, students need an early-conditional admission average of 85 percent or higher and should be enrolled in nine credit hours in the semester the award is presented.

UR Circle of Scholars Entrance Scholarship

It is awarded to the top three students in three specific regions identified annually throughout the world. Students who meet these criteria each year receive CAD 5,000 annually for up to four years. Moreover, these students are invited to meet with the President of the University of Regina each year during the Circle of Scholars event. Undergraduate applicants entering the Fall Intake are automatically eligible for this award.

University of Regina Undergraduate International Student Welcome Solidarity Scholarship and Housing Support

The university has extended this scholarship for students who pursue their academic journey with U of R starting from Winter 2021 or Spring/Summer 2021. The eligibility criteria are as follows:

• New students who register for only Winter 2021 or Spring/Summer 2021 will receive a CAD 1,000 tuition credit upon arrival and registration in the Fall 2021 term.
• Students that register for both Winter 2021 and Spring/Summer 2021 will receive a CAD 2,000 tuition credit upon arrival and registration in the Fall 2021 term.
• Students that register for both Winter 2021 and Spring/Summer 2021 or only Winter 2021 will receive a CAD 2,000 credit towards the on-campus housing rent for Fall 2021 and Winter 2022 terms (CAD 1,000 per term).

After Applying

Students receive confirmation emails after the university receives the application and documents and when the application fee is processed. After this, the graduate applications follow a strict review process before decisions are sent to students.

Application review time is faculty/unit dependent; thus, it may take a week or two for the faculty to make a decision. After this, the Associate Dean reviews the decisions and finally releases admission letters. Thus, the university can take up to a month or more to revert with decisions.

The acceptance rate for U of R is 80-90 percent. Each year it accepts more applicants from all over the world. In 2020, the university recorded its 12th consecutive year of enrolment growth as total enrollment expanded by one percent with 16,664 full-time and part-time students. Thus, as long as a student meets the general admission criteria and the program-specific requirements, the chances of admission are high. Additionally, a strong academic record with competitive scores will give a student an edge over the others. The university also advises international students to apply as early as possible because admissions are offered on a first-come-first-served basis.

Can I work while studying here?

International students with a study permit that allows them to work can undertake on and off-campus job opportunities. On-campus employment includes working in facilities owned, leased, or rented by the university. The employer may be the university itself, a student organization, or a private contractor operating within the boundaries of the campus. Students can check the university’s Human Resources website for the latest job openings on campus or visit the Career Centre. Eligible students can work off-campus up to 20 hours a week while the university is in session. During scheduled breaks or vacations, students can work up to 40 hours a week.

International students can work on and off-campus without a work permit if they fulfill the following conditions:

The University of Regina has campuses located in Regina (main) and Saskatoon on Treaty 4 and Treaty 6 territories. It has 10 faculties, 25 academic departments and schools, 18 research centres and institutes, and three federated colleges – Campion College, First Nations University of Canada, and Luther College. The Regina campus and historic College Avenue campuses are located on 239 acres in Wascana Centre, which is one of the largest urban parks in North America. In August 2018, the university’s campuses became 100 percent smoke-free as a part of its commitment to providing a safe and healthy place to study, work, live, and visit.

Is on-campus housing available?

U of R provides on-campus housing for all international students. It claims to have some of the most affordable student residencies in Canada, with more than 16 room styles to choose from and the option of living in a Living-Learning Community. Students can choose from four on-campus student residences:

• College West: Recently renovated in 2018, this residence has been a favorite of international students. It has a modern apartment-style living with shared interactive spaces.
• La Résidence: It has a French-speaking environment open to all language speakers. This residence offers 50 spacious private rooms with full bathrooms and a small fridge.
• Paskwaw & Wakpá Towers: It has 681 modern rooms with a campus view and big-screen TVs in lounges. It also comprises computer rooms, pool tables, and various other amenities.
• Kišik Towers: With 606 beds, it offers modern and fully-furnished apartments, private dorms with washrooms, and common areas.
