Founded in 1827 as the King's College, the University of Toronto came to be known by its present name in 1850. Toronto is the oldest university in the province of Ontario and comprises eleven colleges. Many global ranking providers ranked the University of Toronto Ranking among the best universities. The global university ranking for the institute has only improved over the years. 

The US News & World Report which is specific to the US currently ranks the University of Toronto at 18 for the year 2023. This is a drop from its earlier position of 16 in 2022.
