The University of Southern Denmark is a public university situated in Southern Denmark and Zealand. The university was founded in 1998. The university provides varied joint courses in coalition with the University of Kiel and University of Flensburg. The university’s connections with the local industries and the international scientific community are strong. The university is the third largest and the third oldest Danish University. In 2009, princess Marie took charge of the role of the Patron of the University. The university is ruled by a board comprising nine members. It appoints the Rector, the Rector appoints the Dean and the Dean appoints the Heads of Departments.

The university is not governed by faculty governance as there is no Faculty Senate. The university caters to 6 campuses, mainly situated in Southern Denmark. It is spread over a vast area of 272,554 metre square. The campus in Odense is the main campus due to the size and central administration present there. The university, owing to its national stature, consists of 5 faculties, namely Health Sciences, Humanities, Engineering, Science and Social Sciences. It has thirty two departments, a university library and eleven research centres. Education courses and research programs form the core activity of the university.

The university also promotes continuing education and provides varied degrees taught in English such as American studies and European studies. In recent years, new courses such as Mechatronics Engineering, Journalism program and Information Science program have been added. The university’s main focus is on Biotechnology, Communication and Information Technology. It hosts the Danish Institute of Advanced Study (DIAS) which helps renowned researchers to come together in

The Danish IAS supports and encourages curiosity-driven research in the fields of Humanities and Sciences and brings about new revolutionary ideas.

 

The university provides the Danish Government scholarship authorized by the Ministry of Higher Education and Science to eligible candidates. The scholarship comprises two parts - a grant and full tuition fee waiver, to assist students to cover living expenses leading to DKK 3000 per month without taxes. The scholarship will be given to the best qualified of the eligible candidates.

 

The faculty of Engineering may provide qualified candidates a scholarship opportunity. On the basis of points, the best-qualified candidates will be provided a scholarship
