Established in 1918, Tallinn University of Technology is an open technical institution which majorly focuses on the field of engineering, business studies, maritime affairs, and public administration. In 1923, the university opened a laboratory of material testing for research work. In 1936, it received the status of a university. The university is associated with the CESAER and the European University Association. The Department of Economics at the university was developed in 1940, and in 1958, the university opened the Faculty of Engineering. Over the years, the university has grown rapidly.
The university campus provides all the facilities required at the campus. All the fests, events, competitions, seminars and quizzes conducted by the university are organized within the campus. The library at the campus consists of thousands of books, journals, research papers, magazines, course textbooks, and many important research references. The students also access the electronic resources available at the library. There are five schools and four institutes within the campus, namely the School of Business, School of Engineering, School of Information Technology, School of Science and Maritime Academy. The four institutes are the Institute of Geology, Institute of Maritime Systems, Certification Centre and the Technomedicum institute.
The university offers undergraduate degree programs, postgraduate degree programs, and Ph.D. level programs. The student exchange program gives students a wide scope to gain knowledge about different set of courses and interact with international students. The university has a list of some notable alumni that includes Tiit Vahi (Well-known Industrialist), Juri Ratas (Prime Minister of Estonian) and Toomas Luman (Chairman of Estonian Chamber of Commerce).
