The ACT (American College Testing) exam is a standardized test taken by students looking for admission in undergraduate schools/colleges in the United States and Canada. The ACT exam has been developed to evaluate the written, mathematical, verbal and scientific skills of the candidates. In order to give this exam, students need to register for the ACT exam. Before registration decides the test center where you want to give the test. Always check for the test center before registering for the exam, as you need to book the test center at the time of registration. So, reaching the test center should be convenient for you.

ACT Eligibility

Officially, ACT has not defined any particular requirements for giving the ACT exam. As such there are no age or grade restrictions set by the ACT for giving the exam. Majorly, high school students appear for this exam.

International students who want to give the ACT exam need to register for the ACT online only.

Online Registration

  • Create an account on the official website of ACT.
  • Select a test date and the test center according to your convenience.
  • Create your profile and complete the application request and submit the required documentation and confirm the registration.
  • Pay the exam fee to complete your registration. You can pay the fee through a debit/credit card or make an online payment.
  • Deadlines for registration are usually before three to four weeks a test date.

Late Registration

Candidates can also register after the deadline for registration by giving a late fee. Deadlines for late registration are generally about two to three weeks before a test date.

Q. How to register for the ACT?

A. Candidates can register online for the ACT, this is the most popular method of registering for the ACT. Mail registration is also available to register for the ACT.

Q. What is the registration fee for the ACT?

A. International candidates need to pay $150.00 (without the Writing test) as an ACT registration fee and $166.50 (with the Writing test). Candidates in the US need to pay $67 as a registration fee (with the writing test) and $50.50 for without the writing test.

Q. What is the late registration fee for the ACT?

A. Candidates need to pay an additional $27.50 as a late registration fee for the ACT. Candidates need to pay this if they register after the regular deadline.

Q. Is ACT hard?

A. ACT is certainly not an easy exam to attempt, answering 215 questions in 2 hours and 55 minutes is one of the biggest challenges for test-takers. Candidates find the math section a little complicated. Also, the passages in the ACT are lengthy, so, tend to take longer to read.

Q. How much Additional Score Report for ACT cost?

A. Candidates need to pay $15 to send additional score reports online after registration. Candidates need to request this online before the test date.

Q. How to make changes to ACT registration?

A. Candidates can make changes to registration through their MyACT account. Candidates are allowed to make the following changes:

  • Add or remove the writing test
  • Changes to test date or test location
  • Any updation to personal information
  • Any changes to selected colleges

Q. Which exam to take ACT or SAT?

A. Usually, US colleges accept both SAT and ACT, so, it doesn't matter whether you take for getting admission in an undergraduate program. Candidates also give both the exams, however, you can check which exam you can score better and go for that.

Q. Is there any negative marking for guessing in the ACT?

A. There is no negative marking in ACT, so, even if you do not know the answer do not leave it.

Q. What is the difference between the ACT and SAT?

A. There are some common factors in both the exams, like both the tests ACT and SAT include math and reading comprehension. However, candidates need to have more textbook knowledge of high school if they are giving the ACT. Also, ACT includes Trigonometry whereas SAT does not have it.

Q. When is the right time to take the ACT?

A. Generally, students take the ACT in their high school. Go through the ACT exam pattern and syllabus and learn how much time you need to prepare for the test. Give yourself some time, so, you can take the retest if you could not get a targeted score on the first attempt.
