Esslingen University of Applied Sciences is public and one of Germany's top universities of Applied Sciences. The history of the university goes back to the 19th century when the School of Mechanical Engineering was established in the year 1868 at the Royal School of Construction in Stuttgart. The Esslingen University of Applied Sciences came into existence much later, in 1971. The institute boasts of 11 faculties offering 28 Graduate and 14 Postgraduate courses in various disciplines but primarily focuses on Management, Business Administration and Business Studies, Electrical and Mechanical Engineering, IT Engineering, Healthcare and Nursing, and Social Sciences. In 1998, to address industry demand, Esslingen University of Applied Sciences began its first English-language PG programme - MBA in International Industrial Management.
The Esslingen MBA was one of the discoverers of international programmes organised in the English language at the state universities in Germany. Currently, the Graduate School at Esslingen organises three PG programmes taught entirely in English. Functioning as one of the finest and biggest institutes of Applied Sciences in the federal state of Wuerttemberg-Baden, Esslingen University of Applied Sciences has good connections/networks with both regional and global organisations. The university boasts of three campuses. The main city campus is located in the centre of Esslingen, while the Hilltop campus and Goppingen campus are situated at Flandernstr and Robert-Bosch Street, respectively. Esslingen University of Applied Sciences arranges for an advanced training based on a two-pillar model. The Institute of Advanced Training under the university works as the service provider for the implementation and organisation of advanced training programmes, like compact and pre-study courses for students, summer schools or conferences and company seminars.

The academic staff at the institute is primarily responsible for designing the contents of the course. Certificate, as well as part-time degree courses, are organised in the Advanced Training Office. The available courses are aimed towards the proficiency profile of Esslingen University of Applied Sciences with specialisations in Management, Engineering, Nursing and Social Sciences.
Esslingen University of Applied Sciences conducts numerous research projects on contemporary topics for the society and economy in association with renowned partners. The institute has prioritised four major points of special interest — often with interdisciplinary teams from different institutes and faculties. The university's International Office offers programmes in 11 different languages and provides you with an opportunity to qualify the placement tests. All language courses taking place during and in between semesters are open and free of charge for the university employees and students. The university also has notable alumni. Some of the famous names from its alumni network are Nazi German politician, Richard Drauz, airship designer Ludwig Dürr, Werner Niefer, the former Chairman of Mercedes-Benz, German politician Ingo Rust and designer Hans Erich Slany.
