Founded in 1967, although plans of its establishment were designed a decade ago, the University of Ulm is found within the South German state of Baden-Württemberg. It is a public research-led university and is one of the youngest universities within Germany as a whole. The university majorly focuses on medicine, engineering, economics, computers, and natural sciences.
The university is home to about 10,284 students and comprises of four faculties, viz., Faculty of Medicine (which is inclusive of a university hospital), Faculty of Engineering, Computer Science and Psychology, Faculty of Mathematics and Economics, and Faculty of Natural Sciences. The university has further defined its research concentrations to be within the areas of Engineering and Technology, Life Sciences and Medicine, Nanomaterials and Biomaterials, and Financial Services.
The campus of the university comprises of many open research centers, industrial research centers, and development research centers. In addition, Ulm University cooperates with about 200 universities in 50 countries in various exchange programs. The university offers 23 undergraduate, 38 postgraduate, and a Ph.D. program. These programs contain various subjects that give students a good scope to settle on consistent with their area of interest.
Interesting fact, Ulm itself, situated on the River Danube, was the birthplace of Albert Einstein. Ulm is home to a science park, which itself houses numerous high-tech public and industrial research and development centers, along with three hospitals. Students pursuing sciences at the University often complete internships at companies located on the Ulm campus, while master’s students may work on their thesis in close cooperation with industrial partners that include Daimler, Continental AG, and BMW.
The University of Ulm features a remarkable list of alumni that include Dirk Jens Nonnenmacher (CEO of HSH Nord Bank), Bernd Schroppel (Former Nephrologist at Sinai Medical Centre), Gens Marklof (German Mathematician), Beate Schucking (Renowned author), Reiner Knizia (Board Game Designer), Luder Deecke (Famous Neurologist) and Stefan R. Bornstein (Director at Centre for Internal Medicine).
