Maastricht University, which is often abbreviated as UM (Universiteit Maastricht in Dutch), is located in the Netherlands. In its first academic year, a total of fifty students enrolled in the university. The university was facing a shortage of medical professionals.

By the end of 1975, the Dutch Parliament passed the law for the university to gain educational funds and encourage more academic degrees. And soon in 1976, in the year of its official establishment, it received political support and flourished in terms of funds and academic scopes. Maastricht University offers an array of faculties. The faculty of Health, Medicine and Life Sciences is with tentatively 1,950 students and 1,200 staff members. The wide array of disciplines offered here make it unique in the entire European continent.

The faculty of Psychology and Neuroscience has around 1,500 students and 250 staff members. The Psychology bachelor's programmes in this faculty are offered in both English and Dutch. The faculty of Law has around 2500 students and 150 staff members. This faculty offers four bachelor's programmes, seven master's programmes, and three advanced master's programmes. The faculty of Arts and Social Sciences approximately holds 2,000 students and 240 staff members. It offers two bachelor's programmes, eight master's programmes and two research master's programmes. The faculty of Science and Engineering offers one pre-bachelor's program, five bachelor's programmes, four master's programmes, and three liberal arts and science programmes. Maastricht University has two different locations in Maastricht, one in the city centre and the other in Randwyck in the outskirts of the city. The Arts, Humanities and Social Science faculties are situated in the city centre campus while the Psychology, Medical and Life Sciences are situated in the Randwyck campus.

The student life at Maastricht University is replete with opportunities, sports, learning, and cultural activities. They are given chances of associating themselves with student associations, international associations, and debating societies. The university library has an ambience that creates an impetus for excellence in modern studies and research.

Moreover, the university has some other spectacular features like small tutorial groups that help each student participate actively and the teachers to know every student by their first name and be more accessible. Nearly 53% of the students and 40% of staff members are from abroad, which enhances the learning activities, knowledge, and cultural experiences. The university works on innovatively developing their programmes to help students have a fun learning experience. It is situated in the heart of Europe and is accessible from major cities and airports for easy transportation purposes.
