The University of Canterbury placement rate for 2019-20 was recorded at 87% from 1577 responses out of which 811 students were pursuing a full time employment. There were 49% of those students also who were pursuing a part time job and 25% of the graduates were enrolled in higher studies. The average salary recorded was NZD 55,000 for 2019 graduates of University of Canterbury with highest recruitments in the Mining and Real Estate industries but the education sector was also at par with a high number of placements.

Class of 2019 of University of Canterbury  

University of Canterbury had 22.02% of international students, that is 903 students. Around 2299 female and 1843 male students graduated in 2020. Ethnicity: 

There were 22% of international students hailing from Asia; 83% followed by North America: 11%, UK/Europe: 3%, Oceania, Africa, Central & South American: 1% and Middle Eastern students who were just 0.2%. In terms of ethnicity of the graduates, the pie chart shows the region wise highest number of students:

Employment Status: 

As per the divisions of graduate outcomes survey, the students are categorised into 11-12 areas depending upon their activities after graduation. The graph below categorises the graduates of the University of Canterbury for the year 2019-20 six months after their graduation:

For those graduates who were not pursuing higher studies, were mostly employed in a full time job or a part time job. Very few of them were not working at all. The following graph summarises the field wise graduate employment data of University of Canterbury details:

University of Canterbury Income Report by Industry for Graduates of 2019-20 

The gross income for graduates is calculated  were working full-time for less than 30 hours per week. Of the total 1577 graduates who had responded to the survey, 64% of them were working 30+ hours a week. Graduates of University of Canterbury were placed 100% in Rental, Hiring & Real Estate Services along with Mining Industries. The post-graduates were recruited in the Public Admin & Safety and Health Care industries. Research scholars were mostly based in the education sector.

It can be concluded that: 

  • The average income for females and for males was NZD 50,001 – NZD 60,000. 
  • Approximately 30% of female graduates indicated earning leafs than NZD 50,000 in comparison with 23% of male graduates. 
  • While 4% of females reported that they were earning over NZD 100,000 in comparison to 8% of males.
