Eligibility & Documents Required
What are the eligibility requirements?
To be eligible for the undergraduate programmes, applicants must complete at least 12 years of high school education and fulfill the country-specific eligibility conditions. For instance, Indian applicants must complete Grade 12 and submit SAT scores of Physics and Mathematics Level II. Applicants may also undertake the SUTD’s University Entrance Examination (UEE) in lieu of SAT Subject Tests. Those applying with State and other Boards (except Central and ISC Boards) are highly encouraged to supplement their applications with SAT Subject Tests in Mathematics Level II and Physics. Apart from this, students need to showcase English language proficiency for which the university accepts any of these tests with competitive scores:
For master’s programmes, applicants should hold a bachelor’s degree or its Singapore equivalent that establishes 15 years of education in a relevant field. For PhD programmes, students need to have at least a bachelor’s degree or above with excellent academic standing. Submitting a GRE report is not compulsory, but it is recommended as GRE scores are considered while evaluating applications. Additionally, IELTS or TOEFL test scores need to be submitted to validate English language proficiency.

Is there any application fees?
SUTD does not charge any application fee from undergraduate applicants. However, graduate applicants need to pay a non-refundable amount of application fee of SGD 21.40 for all programmes.
What is the fee structure of courses offered by the university?
SUTD follows a cohort-based fixed fee model, where the tuition fee for a cohort intake remains unchanged throughout the normal candidature of students. Scholarships & Financial Aid
Is there any scholarship or financial aid available for international students?
SUTD offers a limited number of scholarships to international students based on merit or research work. Apart from this, international students can also take the help of external scholarships and aids from private institutions or their country’s government to study at SUTD.
For undergraduate students, the university offers the following scholarships:
- SUTD Global Excellence Scholarships: It is offered to international students who demonstrate outstanding academic achievements. The beneficiary student’s tuition fee is subsidised, and an allowance of SGD 5,000 is provided once in every two terms. This scholarship also provides an optional grant of up to SGD 15,000 for students who graduate from SUTD and opt for postgraduate degrees at SMU or SUTD within three years.
- ASEAN Undergraduate Scholarships: Offered to UG aspirants of ASEAN countries, excluding Singapore, this scholarship recognizes students who have outstanding co-curricular records, showcase leadership skills, and required academic grades.
SUTD offers the following scholarships to graduate students:
- SUTD President’s Graduate Fellowships: This fellowship offers complete tuition fee support along with a monthly stipend of SGD 3,000 to eligible international graduate students. The additional benefits include internships, sponsored overseas studies, and much more.
- SUTD PhD Fellowships: This fellowship offers complete tuition fee support and a monthly stipend ranging from SGD 2,000 to SGD 2,500 to eligible international graduate students.

Before initiating the application process, ensure that you meet the minimum eligibility requirements of the course and programme. All students need to apply directly to the university using SUTD’s online portal. Do note that the university only accepts online applications. New applicants need to create an account first and then login with their credentials. Step 1: Students who have already created accounts can log in with their user IDs and passwords to start the application, or they will need to register on the portal first.
Step 2: After saving your credentials, log in with your new password. Click on ‘Start a New Application’ and select their application type and programme to continue with the application.
Step 3: Scroll down and select the ‘International’ option in the ‘Qualification Type’ category and choose your qualifications to proceed further. After that, you can complete the application by selecting the desired programmes to submit the necessary documents.
Step 4: Fill in your details as required and ensure to complete all the sections of the form.
Lastly,sign a declaration and pay the application fee (if applicable) before applying. Now, you can check the status of your application by logging in to the application portal with the same user ID and password.
When will I hear from the university after I submit my application?
UG applicants can expect decisions on their applications by early-May. Students are usually notified within one month after they submit their online application forms. Notifications regarding the application status are generally conveyed through e-mails.

What are the chances to get into this university?
SUTD selects applications of students based on their merit and competition in that particular year. Students need to provide answers to some profiling questions and may also need to appear for an interview round after getting selected by the university. Currently, the interview round is conducted online for international applicants.
The chances of securing admission to SUTD are high if a student has the required academic qualifications and English language proficiency scores. The university is relatively lenient when it comes to academic grades as compared to other Singaporean universities. Therefore, the deciding factor could be the IELTS or TOEFL or any other English proficiency test scores. Graduate students usually need to attach more than one recommendation letter. They also need to write around 1,000 words in the personal statement to accentuate their interest in the subject and the university. Undergraduate and graduate applicants who have enrolled in a full-time degree course can apply for on-campus employment opportunities. They need to follow these guidelines and rules that are listed below:
- Students can work up to 16 hours per week during academic term and up to 36 hours per week during vacations.
- Graduate students who are already getting scholarships, stipends, or allowances must confirm their work eligibility with the organisation funding their scholarships/grants.
- Students who are on an absence leave can apply for part-time jobs, and on getting approval, the SUTD department that hires students will need to pay the insurance coverage.
- Undergraduate students will get a remuneration of SGD 10 per hour, whereas graduate students will get a remuneration of SGD 15 per hour
