Established in 1898, the University of St. Gallen is an open research institution, which majorly focuses on the field of economics, business administration, international affairs, and law. The university is associated with the Association of Professional Schools of International Affairs, the Global Alliance in Management Education, the EFMD Quality Improvement System, and the Association of Advanced Collegiate Business. The university is known to have the largest faculty for business administration in Switzerland. In 1899, the business academy commenced lectures. In 1939, the university began awarding doctoral degrees.

The university campus is set at the top of Rosenberg Hill. The campus provides all the facilities required by the students. It is well-known for its art and architecture. The library at the campus comprises work by some famous architects like Penalba, Valentin, Taples, Mastroianni, Gehr, Bodmer, Gubler, Fabro, and Stahly. The university has five schools within its premises, namely School of Finance, School of Management, Law School, School of Humanities & Social Science, and School of Economics & Political Science.

The institution has over 42 research institutes and centres. The university is a part of the European Research Centre for Information Systems and Auto-ID Labs Network. The campus features a great learning environment for the students. It is close to many restaurants and cafes. Several chemist shops, general stores, and stationery shops are located near the campus. The university has decided to expand its campus due to the increasing number of students.
