Formerly called the University College of North Wales, Bangor University is a public university established in the year 1884. In Wales, during the nineteenth century, a campaign for higher education provision resulted in the foundation of this university. Voluntarily, the local people, including the farmers and the quarrymen, contributed their earnings to its establishment. In 1911, the main building of this university opened, along with a few arts and social science buildings. After receiving the degree-awarding powers, it started giving out degrees under its current name in the year 2009.

The university campus stretches in vast parameters in Bangor. Additionally, a share of the School of Healthcare Sciences dwells in Wrexham. The campus is easily accessible and connects to London, Manchester, Crewe, and Cardiff via a direct train. One can reach the campus by taking a bus or a ferry too. It offers many student-friendly amenities to the students, including sports facilities, learning facilities, libraries, and accommodations. The university is made up of three Colleges housing fourteen academic Schools, as well as over fifty specialist research centres, enabling the provision of courses spanning the Arts, Humanities, and Sciences. The residence facility offered by the university consists of conveniences such as lounges, studios, kitchens, and fitness rooms. The Commercial Services Department of the university takes care of the catering, campus shops, event organization and food, and drinks outlets.

Bangor University’s research has been ranked highly at #42 in the Government’s most recent Research Excellence Framework (REF2021), with 85% judged to be world-leading (4*) or internationally excellent (3*). Bangor University’s research delivers social, cultural, and environmental benefits, from advances in healthcare to combatting global environmental change and finding the energy solutions of the future. Pioneering research has been recognised in Sport and Exercise Sciences; Earth Systems and Environmental Sciences, Allied Health Professions, Dentistry, Nursing and Pharmacy; Psychology, Psychiatry and Neuroscience; Engineering and Business & Management Studies. More than 150 UK universities and other research institutes were assessed in the exercise. Bangor University features among the top 5 universities at the Whatuni Student Choice Awards 2022 and also finds mention in the top 10 across 5 categories at the StudentCrowd University Awards 2022.
