These courses focus on developing employment specific skills such as critical thinking, creativity, emotional quotient and problem-solving ability. What all courses are available to international students?


University of East London offers both undergraduate and postgraduate courses, including masters, postgraduate certification and PhD. There are around 218 undergraduate, and 154 postgraduate courses. The university offers various methods of study, including full-time, part-time, online/blended and distance learning.

Students can choose a programme from 28 subject areas ranging from Engineering, Law, Healthcare, Psychology to Computing, Public Health, Architecture and many more. According to the preferred subject areas, international students can study in one of the seven schools mentioned below:

University of East London is involved in cutting-edge research. The high impact research projects of the university are based on various areas such as Health, Education, Architecture, Social Science, Digital Industries and Environmental Stability. The university also has renowned research institutes. Sustainability Research Institute (SRI) is a centre of excellence for environmental research. Institute for Health and Human Development (IHHD) is university’s public health research centre. 90 percent of the university’s research was considered ‘internationally recognized’ and 60 percent research as ‘internationally excellent’.

What are the eligibility requirements?


The eligibility requirements at University of East London are based on the level of the course applied for. Along with academic requirements, international students are required to fulfil English language requirements such as IELTS Academic,  TOEFL or PTE Academic. The minimum score for English proficiency tests varies as per the course applied for.

Along with percentage requirements, some courses may require students to fulfil subject-specific requirements, submit portfolio, take a test or attend an interview.

Postgraduate Course

  • For postgraduate level, the students are required to have 50 percent or above in a three-year undergraduate degree from a recognised university or institution. Some courses may need the students to provide relevant research experience, work experience, portfolio or appear for subject-specific test.
  • Students, who have completed one or two years of a degree or an Edexcel HND, or another recognised qualification, can be considered for advanced entry.
  • Students, who have achieved an aggregate score of 40 percent (Third Class) degree from a recognised educational body, are considered eligible for Pre-Masters.

What all documents are needed for application?


For applying to University of East London, the required documents depend on the level of study. Some documents are common to all courses, while some are course-specific documents.

For undergraduate courses, international students need to provide academic transcripts, one academic reference, an English language test score and a personal statement.

International students, who are applying to postgraduate courses require to upload academic transcripts, relevant research or work experience, two academic references and a personal statement. Students are also required to provide proof of English language proficiency. Some courses may require portfolio or ask to take test as part of the application.

Application & Tuition Fees


Is there any application fees?


For international students applying directly through University of East London’s online application, there is no application fee. Students applying for undergraduate programme through UCAS need to pay a non-refundable application fee of GBP 20 for a single programme choice and GBP 26 for multiple choices.


What is the fee structure of courses offered by the university?


The tuition fees charged by University of East London vary as per the course applied for. Upon receiving the offer, international students are required to pay the deposit of their tuition fee so that a Confirmation of Acceptance number can be issued by the university. The deposit amount depends on the programme applied to. The offer letter includes the exact deposit amount along with the method of payment by the international student. As per the estimate of academic year 2020-2021, the minimum deposit amount is as follows:

International students can also avail early payment discount wherein they can receive five percent discount on their tuition fee by paying the full tuition amount before the date specified in the offer letter.

Scholarships & Financial Aid


Is there any scholarship or financial aid available for international students?


University of East London offers a number of scholarships to international students. Depending on the course applied for, students can receive scholarships ranging between GBP 1,000 and GBP 4,000. Given on first year’s tuition fees, these scholarships are indicated in the offer letter and every applicant is assessed for the eligibility.

There are some application-based scholarships for which international students are required to submit an application, including personal statement and other supporting documents. International students who have previously studied at University of East London and received a qualification from the university, are eligible for Alumni Scholarship. Under this, the students can receive scholarship worth ten percent off their tuition fees.

There are few course-specific scholarships, for which international students must check with the respective departments. Also, the university offers Sports Scholarships to promote elite athletes and help them manage their studies with sporting goals. Under this scholarship, eligible international students can avail non-repayable bursaries, worth up to GBP 6,000 a year.

Admission Process


When do the admissions start?


University of East London has three admission intakes: January, March and September. The application deadlines for courses depend on the intake and the course applied for. For international students applying for undergraduate degrees through UCAS, the application starts around mid-May and the deadline for most undergraduate courses is January 15. For most courses in Medicine, Dentistry, and Veterinary Medicine/Science, the deadline is October 15. The universities start making admission decisions from September.

As seats on many courses are limited and admission is given on a first come first served basis, University of East London encourages the students to apply as early as possible. Early applications have better chances of receiving an admission offer.

Step 1: Applicants will start the process by making the right programme choice.

When will I hear from the university after I submit my application?


After submitting an application, the university sends an acknowledgement to applicants’ email. The admission decisions are made by the university within 10 working days for postgraduate courses where entry is based on standard qualifications, rather than interviews or portfolios. If the application is through UCAS, the university may start sending out decisions from the month of September. However, January to June is the main period for applicants to check the response of their applications.

Part Time Work While Studying


Can I work while studying here?


Full-time international students, having their student visa or biometric ID card, can work both on and off campus. International students are allowed to work up to 20 hours per week during regular term and full-time during scheduled breaks.

The university has Employment Hub which helps the students in finding on-campus and off-campus work along with internship and volunteering opportunities. There is also an Employment Engagement Team which connects the students with employers for part-time and casual jobs.

Students who are admitted at the university are also provided with Track My Future, which is an online platform where they can receive updates about the university, avail different services and can also find employment opportunities.

How many campuses does the university have?


University of East London has three superbly located campuses mentioned below:

  • Stratford Campus: Located close to the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, this campus has a new library and learning centre, upgraded laboratories and computing services. This campus houses the School of Education and Communities, and Centre for Clinical Education in Podiatry, and Physiotherapy and Sports Science.
  • Docklands Campus:Situatedin London Docklands, near Royal Albert Dock, this waterfront campus has not only beautiful surroundings but also well-equipped learning environment supported by modern lecture theatres, seminar rooms, a 24/7 library and learning centre.
  • University Square Stratford Campus: Located near Westfield Stratford City, this campus is London’s one of the most modern and well-equipped campus. This campus caters to courses in Law and Criminology, Dance and Performing Arts, and the Master of Business Administration.

Is on-campus housing available?


International students who are 18 years old or above and are starting their first year of full-time programmes at the university are considered eligible for on-campus housing.

University of East London has mesmerizing waterfront Halls of Residence where students have options of two different accommodation building types: West Student Hall and East Student Hall.

Both the halls have the three types of accommodations:

  • Premium: This accommodation type includes en-suite rooms with refurbished kitchens.
  • Standard: These are affordable en-suite rooms.
  • Wheelchair accessible: These rooms are adapted to cater to the needs of the students with disabilities.

Based on the room type, the cost per night of the East Halls ranges from GBP 24 to GBP 28. For the West Halls, the cost per night is between GBP 21 and GBP 23.

Students can avail guaranteed accommodation, provided they submit the residence application on accommodation portal within the specified deadline.
