Established in the year 1964, the University of Essex is a public research university based in Colchester, UK. Academic Ranking of World Universities (Shanghai Ranking) has placed Essex consistently at 501-600 from 2017 to 2020 in its universities ranking. Whereas, QS has dropped Essex University’s position from 330th rank for 2017 to 411th rank for 2021 in its world university ranking. THE (Times Higher Education) has slightly dropped Essex University's rank from 251-300 for 2018 to 2020 to 301-350 for 2021 in its best university ranking.
