The University of Hull, originally University College Hull, is a public research university in Hull, England. Founded in 1927, the University of Hull is England’s 14th – oldest university. The foundation stone of the University of Hull was laid by the Duke of York (later King George VI) and was opened with just 39 students and 14 “one-person” departments. The motto of the university, Lampada Ferens, translates as ‘carrying the light of learning.’ In the 2014 national Research Excellence Framework (REF), 62% of the university’s research was considered internationally excellent.

The QS World University Rankings for 2023 ranked Hull University 651-700. Meanwhile, Times Higher Education ranked Hull University in the range of 601-800 in its world university rankings for 2022.

Currently, the University of Hull is home to over 14,500 students with 19 per cent international students. There are around 2,500 employees, including more than 1,000 academic staff from over 100 countries.

The University of Hull offers guaranteed room within their owned or managed accommodation for all unaccompanied new students if you sign up by 1 October. There are three on-campus accommodations; Westfield Court, The Courtyard, and Taylor Court. Westfield Court is the newest and most exciting accommodation specially designed for students, its price starts from GBP 140 per week. The Courtyard is vibrant, ideally placed accommodation for students, its prices start from GBP 154 per week. Taylor Court is one of the established and close-knit communities and a gated courtyard, its prices start from GBP 140 per week.
