The University of Liverpool is a publicly owned institution for higher learning and research that was established in 1881. The college was founded as University College of Liverpool, and in 1884 it became a part of Victoria University. The institution received its current name in 1903 when a royal charter and a parliamentary act gave it university status. The European University Association (EUA), North West Universities Association (NWUA), Conceive Design Implement Operate (CDIO), and Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business all have links with the university (AACSB). The Russell Group and N8 Research Partnership are also connected to it.
The University of Liverpool's MBA program received a ranking of #201+ in the global MBA rankings from QS World University Rankings. In the same year, Times Higher Education placed it at number 163.
On its 100-acre campus, the University of Liverpool comprises 192 buildings that hold lecture halls, classrooms, and research facilities. Additionally, the institution runs a branch campus in London's Finsbury Square and an overseas campus in China that was established in collaboration with Xi'an Jiao Tong University. For use in research, education, and instruction, the university library has a sizable collection of rare and unique printed books. The University of Liverpool offers more than 400 undergraduate, postgraduate, doctoral, and online programs through its three colleges, which are further divided into several departments, schools, and institutes. The university provides academic programs in a variety of fields, including the humanities, the law, the sciences, the arts, engineering, media, communication studies, computer science, the humanities, the biological sciences, languages, management, and environmental sciences. In addition, the institution supports a number of clubs that are run by the Students' Union. These groups concentrate on a range of learning opportunities and leisure pursuits in the fields of sports, media, theater, music, dance, and public speaking. The institution is home to 6,000 faculty members and 50,000 students from more than 160 different countries, making it a diverse community in terms of ethnicity. Approximately 22,000 students are now enrolled on campus at the institution, including 7,700 international students, who account for 26.8% of the total enrollment. Nearly 10,000 students are earning their degrees online, coming from 160 different nations.
International students can apply for merit-based scholarships at the University of Liverpool. Among the scholarships given to students from abroad are Vice-International Chancellor's Attainment Scholarship (2,000 GBP fee reduction in the first year), University of Liverpool First Class Scholarship (1,000 GBP fee reduction for each subsequent year of study) and Sport Liverpool Scholarships (2,000 GBP).
The university has a vast alumni network of 219,000 graduates from about 171 countries. It maintains a separate list of its highly successful and award-winning alumni including the 10 Noble Prize laureates. Some notable names in the list are Joseph Rotblat (Nobel Prize-winning physicist), Sanjay Kumar Jha (Motorola's former co-CEO), Jonathan George Snow (journalist and TV presenter), Dariush Borbor (Iranian-French architect), William Olaf Stapledon (science fiction author and philosopher), Ong Teng Cheong (Singapore's former president) and Barham Ahmed Salih (Iraq's current president)
