Formed in the 1960s, the University of Sussex is set close to Brighton in south England. It is a leading research institution of higher education. Considered to maintain one of the most attractive campuses in England, it was the first of the new wave of United Kingdom universities which earned its Royal Charter in the year 1961.

The University of Sussex has one of the most beautiful campus locations in the UK. Situated in rolling parkland on the edge of Brighton, the campus combines award-winning architecture with green open spaces. Designed by Sir Basil Spence, the buildings that make up the heart of the campus were given listed building status in 1993. In addition to this, Falmer House is one of only two educational buildings in the UK to be Grade I-listed in recognition of its exceptional interest.

Q. What is the basic entry requirement for international students who wish to pursue a UG course at the University of Sussex?

A. International students who want to study an undergraduate course at the university should be holding good grades in high school leaving certificate. They may also require additional study, on the basis of their home country’s qualification structure). Each UG course has different eligibility which can be found on the university website.

Q. What is the application procedure for admission to the University of Sussex?

A. Students are first required to select a course from a list of over 200 UG courses from 46 subject areas. They should then check the academic entry requirement, which is different for all the courses. (You will have to appear for an interview for a few of the courses for selection) Check the English language requirements and make the fee payment. Check the finding option before that.

Q. What is the difference between a conditional offer and an unconditional offer?

A. If the student is still completing his qualification, the university will send a conditional offer usually. But if you’ve completed your qualification and met the conditions, an unconditional offer will be sent. If the grades set by the conditional offer are obtained, your admission will be confirmed via UCAS after the exam results get published.

Q. What are the requirements to apply for a student visa for studying at the University of Sussex?

A. International students aged 16 and above can apply for a student visa to study in the UK. Students need to possess a Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS) for the same. A CAS will be issued to you by the university after you’ve accepted an unconditional offer. You should also have enough funding for your course.

Q. What documents are needed to apply for a visa application for studying at the University of Sussex?

A. The documents required for making a visa application include your current passport or any other valid travel document, proof of funds, CAS, proof of parental/legal guardian consent and your birth certificate (if you’re below 18 years of age or are using your parent’s bank account for the funding proof).

Q. How long can I study a UG course at the University of Sussex on a student visa?

A. Students studying a UG program on a student visa cannot spend more than 5 years in the UK. No limit has been set for a PG course.

Q. How much does the admission application cost at the University of Sussex?

A. If you’re applying from outside the UK, you will need to pay £363. If you have any dependents accompanying you, you will also have to pay £363 per person. For each year of your program, you need to pay a healthcare surcharge of £470 (applies for the dependant as well).

Q. Why do I need to submit a personal statement for admission to the University of Sussex?

A. Students are required to submit a personal statement as a part of the application procedure. It is a short and crisp piece of writing that should convey your reason of choosing the University of Sussex for your studies. Only 1 personal statement can be submitted by each student.

Q. What all does the University of Sussex tuition fee include and exclude?

A. The tuition fee will cover a student’s education costs along with teaching and exams. The things it won’t cover are the living costs, books and other materials, sports memberships and graduation guest tickets or gown hire.

Q. Can I study at the University of Sussex if my first language is not English?

A. Yes, you can. If you’re a non-native English speaker you will have to prove that you meet the set English language requirements by the university. For this purpose, you can:
  • Appear for an English language proficiency test, such as IELTS.
  • Confirm your language level from other English qualifications.
  • Give the proof of you fulfilling one of the university’s English language exemptions.
  • Pass the Sussex Centre for Language Studies pre-sessional English program.

A. The university has 9 on-campus housing options for students with either en-suite or shared bathrooms. These accommodations are all self-catered.
