The University of Westminster was founded in 1838 as the Royal Polytechnic Institute. It is one of the oldest educational institutions in Britain. The university received a Royal character and was named University of Westminster in 1992. The current Chancellor is Lady Frances Sorrell and Vice-chancellor Dr Peter Bonfield OBE. Its main campus is located in Regent Street in Central London. It has three other campuses located in Fitzrovia, Harrow and Marylebone. It is a member of various associations like the Association of Commonwealth Universities, Association of MBAs, EQUIS, EFMD, Universities UK and European University Association. The University of Westminster is divided into three colleges, twelve schools and 65 departments & research centres. The university has 180 UG courses, 231 PG courses and 99 professional & short courses, which include full-time, part-time & open/distance learning courses. The university received £22 million from grants, contracts and research grants.

The university hostels have 1750 rooms with six halls of residence. The university also helps students to find private residences if they are unable to find a residence in hostels. The university's transport connects all residences to the university. There are various scholarships available for the students, although the University of Westminster does not provide these scholarships. Some of the major scholarships are Brittan Scholarship, Brian Large Bursary Fund, and Westheimer Health and Social Care Scholarship.
