Arizona State University (ASU) is considered a public metropolitan research university. It is one of the largest public universities in the US, with an increasing number of enrollments each year. In Fall 2019, ASU enrolled nearly 90,000 students across its metro campuses. It is fully accredited by the North Central Association Higher Learning Commission, and some of the programs have additional accreditation through specialized accrediting agencies. Lauded for its research opportunities, it gives students access to state-of-the-art facilities, extensive library resources, and over 1,000 student groups. What all courses are available to international students?

 

For undergraduate aspirants, ASU offers over 350 degrees along with undergraduate minors and certificates that complement the degree and adds value to a student’s resume. On the other hand, more than 450 graduate degree and certificate programs are available for graduate students.

Note: A minor is a concentration of academic study in a single discipline that requires substantially fewer credit hours than a major. An undergraduate certification in a particular field shows proficiency in that area.

Eligibility & Documents Required

 

What are the eligibility requirements?

 

For undergraduate aspirants, along with grade 10, 11, and 12 scores, ASU requires TOEFL, IELTS, or PTE. ACT or SAT requirements vary as per the UG major. It also offers credit for AP, IB, and CLEP. Students who are offered conditional admission need to submit TOEFL/IELTS/PTE passing scores within three semesters or successfully graduate from ASU Global Launch.

Graduate program requirements differ depending on the course or major. Some courses may also have higher requirements for English proficiency. Average English proficiency scores required are as follows:

  • Bachelor's degree (four-year or three-year UG + one-year MS) with a GPA of 3.00 (on a scale of 4.00)
  • GRE/MCAT/LSAT: As per course requirement

Note: Students may be exempt from submitting English proficiency scores if they have studied in US high school or hold a bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited U.S. college or university. For more information on this, check the university website.

For MBA programs, score requirements are:

  • GMAT: No minimum requirement
  • GRE: No minimum requirement
  • Work experience is not mandatory but preferred (usually, the class average is six years)

 

What all documents are needed for application?

 

All original academic documents attached to the application need to be in English or accompanied by English translated documents.

For UG aspirants, the following documents are required:

Application & Tuition Fees

 

Is there any application fees?

 

The application fee for the undergraduate program is a non-refundable amount of USD 85 irrespective of the application portal used for the admission process (ASU’s Application portal, Common App, or Coalition App). The application fee for a graduate program is USD 115, non-refundable. Certain professional programs may have a different application fee, so check the respective college website for details.

 

What is the fee structure of courses offered by the university?

 

The tuition fee will vary from course to course. The table below is an estimation of the tuition fee for international students.

Note: Excludes UG college fee, student-initiated fee, and graduate student support fee. The tuition fee fluctuates yearly. Please check the university website for the exact fee structure.

 

Scholarships & Financial Aid

 

Is there any scholarship or financial aid available for international students?

 

ASU may consider international undergraduate aspirants (or transfer students) for the New American University Scholarship, which covers college expenses. To be eligible for this, a student needs to fulfill the following criteria:

  • Should be on F-1 Visa
  • Have a highly competitive GPA and test scores
  • Enrolled in a full-time program

No additional application is required for this, but all relevant documents should be submitted by April 1 (scholarship priority date) to be considered for this award. Apart from this, ASU’s academic departments and colleges offer scholarships and assistantships to all students (undergraduate or graduate) as long as they meet the eligibility requirements. Admission Process

 

When do the admissions start?

 

ASU offers undergraduate programs in the Spring, Summer, and Fall Intake. The admissions for Spring Intake open in July-August, for Summer Intake in October-November, while the Fall Intake starts from January-February. Please check the university website to know which courses are offered in each intake.

ASU offers the full-time MBA program only in the Fall Intake with a rolling deadline.

How to apply to UG courses?

 

UG aspirants can apply to ASU either the Common App, the Coalition App, or the ASU Application portal. Do note that only one application will be considered. If two applications are received from different portals, one of them will be automatically canceled.  After applying, students will receive an email with details for the My ASU portal. Through this, students can track the status of their application, complete/change personal information, and receive an update about the university’s decision.

Fill in details as asked and ensure to complete all six sections carefully.

Select your school details and preferred college under ASU. Enter grades and details about your residency. Choose your desired major and after reviewing your application, submit by paying the application fee.

 

 

How to apply to PG courses?

 

Graduate aspirants can apply to ASU through its Application portal. However, professional courses such as Law or MBA have a separate application portal. Check their respective college website for details.

When will I hear from the university after I submit my application?

 

Undergraduate decisions are usually declared a month after the university receives a complete application, including application fee, transcripts, and other supplements. The university may also announce its decision in five business days, depending on the volume of application and processing time. Decisions for graduate programs vary as per the course. Getting into ASU is easy if you meet the eligibility requirements and have an excellent academic record. As per the U.S. News, the acceptance rate of ASU in 2019 was 84.8%, which means for every 100 applicants, more than 80 students were admitted. Each year, the class average increases with an increase in competitive student scores and grades. Can I work while studying here?

 

International students are allowed to work part-time or full-time as long as they fulfill the following requirements:

  • Should have an F-1/J-1 Visa
  • Enrolled in a full-time program
  • Work should not interfere with full-time study
  • Work up to 20 hours per week (university in session) and 40 hours per week during vacations/breaks

Note: Students may take up more than one job within the campus, but the same work hours conditions are applicable.

Is on-campus housing available?

 

ASU expects first-year students to live on campus in a residential college. Residential colleges have close-knit communities and programs, events, and amenities resonating with the major a student has selected.
