Carnegie Mellon University is a private and global research university in the city of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Andrew Carnegie founded the university as Carnegie Technical Schools in 1900 and it became Carnegie Institute of Technology granting four-year degrees in the year 1912. It was united in the year 1967 with the Mellon Institute of Industrial Research to establish Carnegie Mellon University. Now, it has transformed into international university granting degrees in various locations including the campus in Silicon Valley and as well as international campuses in Qatar, Africa and Australia.
Carnegie Mellon University has independent schools and seven colleges that all offers interdisciplinary programmes including the College of Engineering, Dietrich College of Social Science and Humanities, Mellon College of Science, College of Fine Arts, the School of Computer Science, H. John Heinz III College of Information Systems and Public Policy, and Tepper School of Business. The alumni and staff of the university have found many new companies including Adobe Systems in 1982 whose co-founder was Charles Geschke and Duolingo in 2011 whose founders are Luis von Ahn and Severin Hacker. The university has been awarded in the past and still winning in the present day including 12 Turing Award, 20 Nobel Prize Laureate, 23 Members of the American Academy of Sciences & Arts, 79 Members of the National Academics, 47 Tony Award Laureates and 124 Emmy Award Winners.
Carnegie Mellon Students is home to many student organizations and art galleries. Student organization offers opportunities in the areas of social, media, sport, political, religious, cultural and academic. The university houses many art galleries including The Frame which is a fully devoted student gallery and Regina Gouger Miller Gallery that showcases the art of professional artists.
