What are the courses available to international students?
Chapman University offers various courses for international students, including 65 bachelors, 57 minor, 17 accelerated and bridge, 53 master, and six doctoral programs taught by 11 different schools and colleges.
Only two graduate programs at Chapman do not accept international students. These are:
- MMS in Physician Assistant Studies

What are the documents required for the application?
International applicants must submit official copies of academic records from all secondary or pre-university programs, colleges, and universities attended. These documents are:
Undergraduate Programs
- The academic records are directly sent from their respective schools.
- All the records must be in the native language, accompanied by a certified English translation if the native language is not English.
- The external examination results or predicted results are required. Examples: expected IB results, Indian board exam results, GCSE/IGCSE results, indicated A-levels, Australian ATAR, etc.
- The transcripts do not require external evaluations, because Chapman University internally evaluates them.
Graduate Programs
- The applicant needs to submit the official transcripts along with the application. Applicants using the general application to apply for the programs must submit the transcripts from all your colleges/universities attended. The official transcript has to be submitted in a sealed envelope taken from your college/university.
- Applicants using a CAS application have to submit their transcripts through CAS. You have to submit the transcripts to Chapman if requested by the department only.
- The unofficial copies are used for evaluation and review purposes. Once you are admitted, your institute should send the official documents to the university.
Common Application Documents
1. Recommendation Letters
Graduate programs require a minimum of two recommendation letters. Some of the programs might expect recommendations from particular sources.
2. Statement of Intent and Resume
Applicants have to check your program's specific requirements regarding a resume or student CV and Statement of Intent or SOP.
3. International Supplement Form
All international students of all visa types have to submit a completed International Student Supplement Form.
- This form helps Chapman know about your country or countries of citizenship, current and anticipated visa status, and passport information.
- If you require an I-20, this is the first step to obtaining a student visa. Upon your admission to the university, this form will be available in your Application Status Portal.
- If you have applied using a CAS application, use this form.
- You will be requested to submit a photocopy of your passport, and evidence of available funds along with the form.

All the applicants must pay a non-refundable amount of USD 70 through the Common Application.
Graduate Programs
Applicants must pay a non-refundable amount of USD 60 for a general Chapman application through the online application system. Applicants submitting through the CAS application have to pay the CAS application fee.

When do the admissions start?
At Chapman, international undergraduates may apply as per admission intakes while graduates need to apply as per specific course/school’s deadlines. Undergraduate may apply in Fall and Spring Intakes and graduates may apply in Fall, Spring, and Summer Intakes depending upon the opening of the application window in a particular department.

What are the steps to an undergraduate application?
The applicants should follow the steps below to apply as a first-year student to Chapman University. You have to submit the university's required documents along with the application.
Step 1: Submit the Application through Common App
- Create an account on the Common App at apply.commonapp.org/createaccount or log in to the account if you are a returning user. Upon login to the account, you have to fill in all the necessary fields. Along with the application, you have to answer the Chapman University questions. The questions are based on your major choice, activities, about Chapman, and others.
- If the applicants choose to review their SAT and ACT scores and the application, you have to submit the scores through the Common App Testing section.
Step 2: Submit a recommendation letter
You have to request a letter of recommendation through the recommender section from one of your lecturers at your school.
Step 3: Submit official transcripts
You have to ask your high school official to submit the transcripts from each high school you attended in this step. Along with the transcripts, you are requested to submit if you have taken any coursework during your high school to Chapman.
Step 4: Submit the school report form
There is a School Report form in the Common App that has to be submitted by your school official.
Step 5: Pay the application fee
In the next step, you have to pay the non-refundable application fee. International students are not eligible for the application fee waiver.
Step 6: Submit English proficiency test scores
International students should submit proof of English proficiency scores. You have to apply after uploading all the test scores, transcripts, and all other required documents.

What are the steps to a postgraduate application?
Most graduate programs use the General application, but some of the programs use the External application. The general application is for post-baccalaureate and graduate applicants only. Let us discuss both methods separately:

Step 1: Apply through Chapman University Application Portal
Students can access the general application through Chapman University Application Portal. Create or login to create a Graduate Chapman Application below:
Step 2: Create a New Application
Now, you will have the option to start a new application or return to a previously created application.
Here, select ‘Graduate’ from the drop-down menu for master’s, PhD, and credential programs, as well as the Transitional Doctor of Physical Therapy program.
Step 3: After selecting the application type, you can see the general instructions regarding the application in the next window. Go through the guidelines and click ‘Continue’.
Step 4: In the further steps, you have to upload all the information and documents regarding your personal information, academic history, statement of intent, resume, test scores, and recommendation letters.

Part Time Work While Studying
Can I study while working here?
International students are allotted to work on-campus for up to 19 hours per week. The job may provide you with a small amount, but will not cover the tuition, living expenses, or fees.
On-Campus
On-campus student employment can be of two types:
- Regular student employment (non-work study)
- Federal Work-Study (need-based financial aid)
International Students are permitted to work as regular non-work-study student employees on-campus and university-funded employment. For this, they must be enrolled in, at least, half-time with an F-1 Visa status. I-20 must be valid and current to maintain or seek on-campus student employment.
Off-Campus
Depending on the type of visa, international students may have some exceptions for working off-campus. If you have completed your first year on an F-1 visa, you can work off-campus at an internship related to your major.
Graduate Assistantships
If you are accepted as a graduate student at Chapman, you are eligible for a graduate assistantship in student affairs. As a part of this, you can work within various academic student organizations. You will receive professional development, memberships, and financial assistance to attend local/regional conferences.

On-Campus Graduate Housing
Chapman University has limited housing available for graduate and law students. Students interested in living on university campuses should complete a Graduate and Law Student Housing Request Form. Although housing is not guaranteed for students, the university will inform the students as early as late May or early June if the university can accommodate them. Graduate and law students can also find alternative living arrangements off-campus.
Off-Campus Housing
There are several off-campus housing options just a few blocks away from the main campus. The students can select from apartment communities or rent a room, guest suite, or an entire house.
Note: Students must run a security check on any off-campus accommodation they choose. Also, they must prepare for the additional charges and facilities offered in off-campus housing. Since accommodations are offered on a contractual basis, it is recommended to do a thorough check before investing a huge amount in an unknown place.
