Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University is also known as ERAU. It is a private university that has campuses in Arizona, Daytona Beach, Prescott, and Florida. This is the largest accredited university that specializes in aerospace and aviation. This is supposed to be one of the topmost schools for aerospace and aviation. They have many online academic programs that are offered at various satellite locations. The institute was founded in 1926 as Embry Riddle Flying School. There were 3,050 academic staff members in the university as of 2016. As of 2015, there were 31,100 students in the university.
There was a financial endowment of 111.3 million dollars as of 2016. As of December 17, 1925, John Paul Riddle and Talton Higbee Embry had established Embry Riddle Company at Lunken Airport in Cincinnati, Ohio. In the springtime of 1926, the company had opened the Embry Riddle School of Aviation. What followed was a merger with Aviation Corporation (AVCO) and the school was closed in 1930. In 1939 Riddle, John Graham Mckay and his wife Isabel had re-established the school located in Miami, Florida.
They had partnered with the University of Miami after they kept the name so that they can provide training for operating flights under the Civilian Pilot Training Program thereby increasing the total number of pilots immediately before World War II. This is a non-profit university that is ranked as the level six institute by the Southern Association of colleges and schools so that they can award degrees at bachelor’s, master's, doctoral and associate levels.
