Kansas State University was one of only 61 public institutions to receive the Carnegie Foundation Community Engagement Classification (CECC) in 2010. It indicates that K-State is recognized for excellent teaching, learning, and academic support while fully involving professors, students, and communities.

It is a government-supported research university with a primary campus in Manhattan, Kansas. It is a state funding research institution. It was the first public school of higher learning in Kansas when it opened in 1863. The university is categorized as R1: Doctoral Universities – Very High Research Activity. The College of Veterinary Medicine and the College of Technology and Aviation in Salina are among the nine colleges that administer Kansas State's academic offerings.

Kansas statutes authorize elected county councils and district councils to assess educational needs and conduct a local educational programin collaboration with the Kansas State and the US Departments of Agriculture. Under this arrangement, they can implement a local educational program. The Kansas statutes govern the extensions, and the Kansas State University Faculty is linked to the United States via local extension experts and volunteers who create high-quality education programs.

What are the courses available to international students?


Kansa State University includes first-time schoolmen, translating students, students pursuing an advanced degree, or those looking for a better work experience. The campus and online courses include Bachelor’s and Graduate Studies programs. In addition, for students’ continuing professional development, there are several non-credit programs. Kansas State University offers 250+ undergraduates programs and 165+ graduate programs.

What are the eligibility requirements?


For admission to the university, students must obtain the following scores or secure a seat through the entrance test held by the university.

The minimum scores required are:

  • GPA (weighted or unweighted) of total secondary school 3.25 or above OR a score of 21 ACT composites or 1060 or more in SAT ERW+M
  • Obtain a 2.0 GPA for all high school coursework

The university may welcome applicants in the final year of secondary or high school after high school.

Requirements for freshmen:

  • High school curriculum from an accredited secondary school
  • Must have a minimum 2.5 GPA on a 4.0 scale in high school

Is there any application fee?


Students must deposit the relevant fee payable for graduate acceptance or reading with their applications. Current non-graduate students at Kansas State University who wish to enroll in a degree program must submit a new application and pay the application fee. Application fees are both refundable and non-transferable.

Scholarships & Financial Aid


Is there any scholarship or financial aid available for international students?


Many scholarships are offered to international students at the university. These include:

OIP Scholarship for International Students

An international student who has completed at least one semester in K-State and is willing to return for the next school year will be awarded one $750 bill each Fall by the International Program Office. The university will select a student every year in the Spring, and funds are available the following Fall for the award to be disbursed to eligible students.

International Student Center Scholarship

The Educational Opportunity Fund attempts to help underrepresented groups through financial aid. All overseas students can apply for one of the eight $700 scholarships granted by the International Student Center. Every year, they select students in the Spring, and money is available for these awards in the Fall.

K-State Alumni Association International Student Scholarship

The International Student Scholarships of the K-State Alumni Association are for international students of Kansas State University. These bursaries are for international graduates or undergraduates enrolled on the campus of Manhattan, Polytechnic, or Olathe, the leadership of which has contributed to international participation on the campus.

William L. Richter International Scholarship

International students with monetary needs are preferred. Such students must also demonstrate academic potential. Every year, they select students in the Spring, and money is available for these awards in the Fall.

Eligibility Criteria for these Scholarships

  • A person enrolled in the university must be a graduate or undergraduate student
  • In the preceding academic year, a student must not have obtained this bursary
  • K-State shall issue a student’s current I-20 or DS-2019
  • In the Fall of 2020 semester or before, students must have been properly enrolled in K-state
  • In the Fall 2021 semester, students must continue as K-State students
  • Graduates before the Fall of 2021 are not eligible for this bursary

Admission Process


When do the admissions start?


Students from over 100 nations apply to Kansas State University. The university is proud of its international students' organization. International student admission applications to K-State must meet the same academic standards outlined by the university for native students. Also, the US immigration rules require overseas applicants with non-immigrant visas to be engaged in a complete study course.

The tentative deadlines* for the different degree programs may vary. Students must verify the dates with the department in which they are interested.

  • Fall enrollment begins during Early January
  • Spring enrollment begins during Early August
  • Summer registration begins during Early June

What are the steps to the application process?


International students may apply to Kansas State University online via the university's application portal. Refer to the step-by-step application processas follows:

Step 1: Visit www.applyweb.com/kstateg/index.ftl to apply.

Step 2: Create a new account or log in. Enter your email ID, create a password, give your personal information, and create an account.

Step 3: Log in with these credentials, fill in the personal information (name and citizenship), and save.

Step 4: Fill in the address and contact information and then continue.

Step 5: Fill in the domestic and native information.

Step 6: Fill in the academic information and continue.

Step 7: Enter the program of your choice.

Step 8: Upload the required documents and continue.

Step 9: Fill in the education information.

Step 10: Fill in the recommendation page and submit the application.

Next, wait for the results.

 


When will I hear from the university after I submit my application?


It might take up to three to four weeks for Kansas State University to process your application after students provide transcripts and application forms and deposit the application fees. Students may contact the main office if the university has not responded within the time frame given here.

Please note that decisions are announced online and all the student-specific communication from the university is done via email. Hence, students must register with an active email address to keep a track on all university notifications, especially in their spam folder. Aspirants may also check their application status on the official admission portal.

Kansas State University has a 94.6% acceptance rate. It indicates that the institution has an open admissions policy. They take practically all students. Hence, all that students need to do is fill out an application. However, if a student does not meet all the conditions, he/she may be one of the select few who is turned down.


Part Time Work While Studying


Can I work while studying here?


USCIS permits F1 students to work on the campus up to 20 hours per week during university studies. The number of hours a student is allowed to work during summers, spring breaks, and winters is not limited by immigration. However, certain K-state restrictions may be introduced.

You need to apply for a Social Security Number if you are pursuing on-campus work. To request a social security number, you must be a regular student.

A Verification of Social Security Employment must be completed by the employing department.

This letter must be printed on the department letterhead. Students must provide this letter to International Student and Scholar Services to complete their verification for eligibility.

Students can then submit a request for the SSN to the Social Security Administration with the appropriate documentation:

  • The Social Security Employment View letter from the employment department
  • ISSS Employment Eligibility Verification Letter
  • A student’s I-94 and passport (paper form or electronic print-out)
  • A student’s I-20

Note: International students are advised to check the conditions of working in a foreign country on their study visa. They are also advised to confirm any specific instructions on the same from their respective departments and faculties. Under no circumstances should they be found compromising with the law and order of the country.

Students must also get familiar with the rules and regulations of working in a foreign country and learn about the minimum wages they are entitled to. How many campuses does the university have?

Yes, the university offers various on and off-campus housing facilities to its national and international students.

Jardine Apartments

Jardine Apartments provides a secure, pleasant, and inexpensive home away from home for over 1,500 tenants from over 50 nations. Undergraduate, graduate, doctoral students, single students, married couples, and families call Jardine home. Jardine offers about 700 units with 60 distinct floor designs to choose from. In addition, apartments with 1, 2, 3, and 4 bedrooms, studios, lofts, and townhouses are available.

Residence Hall

The K-State campus is home to about 5,500 students. In addition, they have ten residence halls, one leadership/scholarship house for women, and a home for honors students to choose from.

On-campus housing creates the ideal setting for transitioning from home to school. Also, dining services, tutoring programs, on-site laundry facilities, and leadership opportunities are available to students.

CAT Communities

By placing first-year students in the same on-campus residence hall, Residential CAT Communities give an additional chance for them to interact with individuals who share their academic interests.

Smurthwaite House

On the east side of campus, Smurthwaite is an all-female hall that houses 46 women.

A standard triple room in Smurthwaite costs USD 4,065 each semesterin room and board.

Honours House

Honors House is a co-ed residence hall on the western edge of campus. An application and permission process is required for entry into the residence. Honors House is only open to students who are active participants in the University Honors Program.
