Scholarships & Financial Aid

Is there any scholarship or financial aid available for international students?

Yes, Long Island University allocates a certain amount of money for scholarships to students. However, no scholarships depend on financial aid. They are granted based on passing marks at the college.

The university offers various scholarships to undergraduate and graduate international students. All undergraduate students are considered for scholarships based on their academic merit. The availability of institutional, merit-based scholarships varies according to the academic program. Students who file a FAFSA will be considered for institutional scholarships based on merit and demonstrated financial need.

Applicants of graduate school seeking financial aid should notify their respective academic departments early in the application process. Graduate students are automatically considered for university merit-based scholarships as part of the admission process.

Some of the popular scholarships available at the university include:

  • Admissions Merit Awards: These are based on HS average, GPA, and/or SAT/ACT scores, are renewable annually, and are available to first-year and transfer students.
  • Alumni and Sibling Scholarships: These are renewable annually and are available to first-year students.
  • Performing Arts Awards
  • High School Scholars Awards
  • Athletic Scholarships (Full and Partial)
  • Individual, Corporate and Endowed Scholarships
  • Phi Theta Kappa Scholarship

The university also offers loans that must be repaid with interest. The details of the different loans are:

  • William D. Ford Federal Direct Loan Program: The loan is available to students regardless of the level of financial need. The available options are subsidized and unsubsidized loans.
  • The Federal Direct PLUS Loan: This is a creditworthy loan for the parent or legal guardian of a dependent student or a graduate student who has borrowed the maximum annual amount of Direct Loan assistance.
  • Health Professions Loan (HPL): HPL Loans are available to pharmacy majors who provide parental information on their FAFSA application. The loan carries a fixed interest rate of five percent, and the amount varies, depending on the need and availability of funds.

Note: Scholarship deadlines and amounts may vary with progressive years. Students must check the exact deadlines and minimum requirements with their respective departments and apply for the desirable awards on time to make their profiles considerable.

For more details on the scholarship application process and deadlines, please visit the university’s scholarship webpage.

Admission Process

When do the admissions start?

Like the other US universities, Long Island University also offers admission in two major intakes:

LIU Admission Intakes

International students may apply in either of the intakes as per their convenience. While most of the programs offered by the university have rolling deadlines, some programs, especially graduate programs, have specific last dates. Hence, students are advised to check the official website for their specific program’s last date and submit the application accordingly.

Rolling deadlines allow aspirants to apply throughout the year. As soon as admissions for the current intake closes, the application window for the next intake opens. Thus, students may apply anytime for the upcoming session. However, it is recommended to apply six months in advance before the start of a new academic session as the window for international applicants is most like to close by that time.

After receiving the applications, the university reviews them thoroughly to determine if students can be granted admission. There are several processes before an application can be accepted or rejected. Once a decision is made, students receive an email regarding the decision.

Note: It is recommended to register with an active email ID and check it frequently for the latest updates on admission related information. Also, students must remain active on the official website of the university to stay updated with any admission related announcements.
