Mills College is a science and liberal arts education institution. It was established in 1852. Earlier, it was called the Young Ladies Seminary and was located in Benicia, California, later it was relocated to Oakland in 1871. The college offers undergraduate as well as graduate programs. Mills College was also the first college in the U.S to embrace an admission policy that welcomed transgender students for admission. The college offers more than 30 graduate, and certificate programs. It also offers 45 undergraduate programs (majors and minors). The college is approved by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges and operates on a semester system, with optional summer and winter sessions.
