Set up in 1960, the college's honors program gives qualified seniors the chance to pursue a yearlong intensive study of a subject of special interest.
The Student's Opportunities for Academic Research (SOAR) program gives stipends, travel remittances, and expenses for students occupied with research or creative activities through close communication with a faculty mentor. The program helps Moravian students gain a better understanding of scholarship in their discipline and fosters scholar-colleague relationships. SOAR stipends can be as high as $3,000 for summer work. Merit Scholarship grants scholarships to incoming first-year students dependent on their academic performance in high school and demonstrated involvement in school and community activities. Students are consequently considered for a scholarship upon the audit of their application for admission. Academic scholarships can range between $18,000 and $28,000 and are granted regardless of financial need. These grants are renewable at a similar sum every year if students keep up continuous, full-time enrollment and good academic progress. The college has a list of notable alumni which includes J. Neil Alexander, Bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Atlanta; John Gorka, contemporary folk musician; and William F. Badè, former President of the Sierra Club, 1918-22.
