The New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) is a public polytechnic university in New Jersey. It is the largest technological university in the NY metropolitan region. The campus of the university covers a whopping two million square feet of land.

NJIT offers more than 130 programs, including undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral degrees in various disciplines like STEM, Architecture and Design, etc. It has over 60 research institutes, centers, and laboratories for strategic growth. What are the eligibility requirements?

 

International students require a 3.6 GPA to get into the university. International candidates (whose native tongue isn’t English) are also expected to display English language proficiency. The college acknowledges TOEFL, IELTS, and PTE scores as proof of English language capability.

What all documents are required for the application?

 

The university's guidelines state that the documents should be in English. If the supporting documents are not in the English language, students are advised to get them translated.

Application & Tuition Fees

 

Is there any application fees?

 

The application fee for all programs is USD 75. The amount is non-refundable. Students can either pay using a credit card or e-cheque, or internet banking. Students can process the application fee on the NJIT’s official website along with their admission fee. Students facing financial hardships can request a waiver from the university.

Scholarships & Financial Aid

 

Is there any scholarship or financial aid available for international students?

 

NJIT offers various scholarships to all full-time degree-seeking international students. The scholarships are awarded based on merit, academic excellence, and the achievements of applicants. Students should apply for the scholarships before the deadlines or along with the application forms. There are numerous scholarships and awards available to graduate students on a competitive basis. These are either internal, program-specific, or international scholarships/awards.

Eligibility Criteria:

NJIT provides scholarships for students with good academic records. To qualify for these scholarships, a student must have:

  • Visa or a valid visa status
  • He/she must be enrolled in the university
  • Financial need or any financial problems
  • 3.5 cumulative GPA
  • All international undergraduate students
  • SAT score of 1150 score or higher

Also, students have to submit an essay demonstrating why they need this scholarship.

Students can apply for admission to UG and PG courses via their integrated application portal/website ‘Common Application’. The link is given here: www.commonapp.org.

When will I hear from the university after I submit my application?

 

The university acknowledges applications in line with its rules and regulations. Students might hear back from the university in four to eight weeks after submitting their applications. Students will receive an email from the university regarding their decision.

The acceptance rate of the university is 72.8%. It is considered a moderately selective university. The competition is moderate. Students with average SAT or ACT scores are likely to get admission to the university. Students are, however, advised to score more than average marks to secure seats.

Part Time Work While Studying

 

Can I work while studying here?

 

Students enrolled in undergraduate and graduate programs at the university can work on or off-campus. International students are required to have legal work permits to work in the country. Students can work for 20 hours while studying at the university during a regular session. However, during vacations and holidays, students can work for more than 20 hours. Students must maintain an F-1 status for on-campus employment.

Students can log in to the Highlander Pipeline with NJIT UCID and check on-campus employment by clicking ‘Student Services Tab’. If you don’t have an online application, create one and apply for suitable positions of your choice.

The university also helps with off-campus opportunities. Students can:

NJIT offers on- and off-campus housing accommodation to students. The university provides residence halls facilities, undergraduate and graduate apartments, and other faculty housing accommodations. The Residence Halls include Cypress Hall, Honors Hall, Laurel Hall, Redwood Halls, Oak Halls, and Greek Village. The residence halls consist of beds, internet access, furniture, tables, bathrooms (shared or private), and a shared kitchen.

Off-Campus Accommodation

The university is not affiliated directly with off-campus housing but provides a listing of off-campus private owners and landlords on the university's website.  Students can also stay with their friends and family in their private apartments, rental houses, etc. Students can find housing or apartments near Downtown Newark, North Ironbound, Ferry St., Horatio St., Lincoln Avenue, Hazelwood Avenue, and Mapes Avenue, near the university.
