Oklahoma City University (OCU) is a co-educational private university. This university was started by a local developer in the early 1900s as Epworth University. Affiliated to the United Methodist Church, the institution welcomes students from across the globe and offers them various degree programs in disciplines such as liberal arts, fine arts, science, and business. Also, it is the only institution in the city that has been listed in the top tier of the regional, masters-level university category under the rankings given by U.S. News and World Report.

Spread across an area of 104 acres, the campus of Oklahoma City University promises an enriching university experience to all its students. Even a part of the university's campus was listed on the National Register of Historic Places as a historic district. Opportunities for cultural entertainment and enrichment on the OCU campus are comprised of play performances, films, concerts, operas, sporting events, and seminars hosted by well-known speakers and business leaders from all around the world. Further, it offers several pre-professional degree programs. Moreover, it offers a Doctor of Nursing Practice and the Ph.D. in Nursing through the Kramer School of Nursing. The University has more than 1,700 undergraduate students and 600 graduate students from 46 states and 43 foreign countries. The student-faculty ratio at OCU is 11:1.

Even the university provides opportunities for further education accompanied by service-learning components over the curriculum like a partnership with The Oklahoma Scholar-Leadership Enrichment Program (OSLEP), an interdisciplinary program, and many study abroad programs.

Oklahoma City University is well-known for its remarkable alumni network constituted by many distinguished personalities. Q. What English language proficiency scores are to be submitted by international students for admission at OCU?

A. For most of the courses at Oklahoma City University, students are supposed to submit one of the following test scores – TOEFL (79), IELTS (6.5) overall with no sub-score below 6.0, ELS (112).

Q. Can I still get admission at OCU if I don’t meet the language proficiency requirements?

A. Yes, in case you don’t meet the English language requirements, the university may provide you conditional admission. It means can after the completion of the set conditions one will be admitted for the regular course. Till then students will have to apply to ELS Language Centres for the I-20. It should be noted that few courses at the university do not offer conditional admission.

Q. Will I require to submit GRE score for admission at OCU?

A. GRE is not required for the majority of the courses. Also, students wishing to pursue an MBA or an MSA are also not required to provide a GMAT score, but they may have to appear for this test for supporting their admission. PhD in Nursing and DNP admission will need GRE.

Q. What GPA is required for international student admission at OCU?

A. International students should possess a GPA of 3.0 on a scale of 4.0 in order to be considered for admission at OCU. Students should meet all the requirements of admission, and not just one or all of the minimum requirements. The application as a whole will be considered.

Q. I wish to pursue MBA at OCU. What are the minimum requirements for it?

A. Following are the minimum MBA application consideration requirements which applicants have to meet:
  • GMAT 475 (recommended strongly)
  • GPA 3.0/4.0
  • TOEFL 79, IELTS 6.5 overall with no sub-score below 6.0, or ELS 112 completion
  • Work Experience (if required)

Q. Is it mandatory to submit all the documents together for admission at OCU? In case I don’t have one or two documents can I send them later on?

A. In order for the faster processing of applications, students are required to submit all the application documents together. Documents submitted separately will not be accepted as the application will then be considered incomplete. So until you’ve submitted all of it together, your application won’t be reviewed.

Q. How soon am I supposed to reach the US before the commencement of my classes at OCU?

A. International students who have obtained admission at the university are permitted to enter the US up to 30 days prior to the program commencement date mentioned on your I-20. It will be mentioned on your admission letter when would your classes begin.

Q. Can I send soft copies of my documents for admission at OCU?

A. The university will accept soft copies for admission only. But you will have to submit the original copies of your transcripts before you get enrolled. The testing company will have to send the original test scores directly to OCU.

Q. Can I get my admission deferred if I’m unable to join the university due to some reasons?

A. Yes, the university may defer your admission up to one year from your original application date. Students will have to apply again for the admission after a year.

Q. Does OCU offer any scholarships and financial assistance to international students?

A. International students can benefit from several scholarships the Oklahoma City University offers or the undergraduates. One does not need to submit any extra application for the same as all the applicants will be awarded scholarships which they qualify for. It should be noted that international students won’t be considered for federal financial aid in the States.

Q. As an international student can I live off campus?

A. No, all the students below 21 years of age will have to live on campus. Exceptions are considered if the students wish to stay at home with their parents or guardian.
