Oklahoma City University (OCU) is a co-educational private university. This university was started by a local developer in the early 1900s as Epworth University. Affiliated to the United Methodist Church, the institution welcomes students from across the globe and offers them various degree programs in disciplines such as liberal arts, fine arts, science, and business. Further, it offers several pre-professional degree programs. Moreover, it offers a Doctor of Nursing Practice and the Ph.D. in Nursing through the Kramer School of Nursing. The University has more than 1,700 undergraduate students and 600 graduate students from 46 states and 43 foreign countries. The student-faculty ratio at OCU is 11:1.
Even the university provides opportunities for further education accompanied by service-learning components over the curriculum like a partnership with The Oklahoma Scholar-Leadership Enrichment Program (OSLEP), an interdisciplinary program, and many study abroad programs.
Oklahoma City University is well-known for its remarkable alumni network constituted by many distinguished personalities. Some of the notable names include Emmy Award-winning actress Kristin Chenoweth, opera singer William Johns, award-winning journalist Rana Husseini, Miss America of 1996 Shawntel Smith, author awarded with Pushcart Prize Brandon Hobson and several others.
