Part Time Work While Studying

Can I work while studying here?

Pace University allows its students to work while studying. The university provides students with degrees that blend outstanding academics with real-world opportunities such as internships, training, clinical, public participation, and study abroad to help them become experts in their careers.

On-Campus Jobs

If you have an F1 visa, you are automatically allowed to work on-campus part-time, that is, for up to 20 hours per week, during the school year and full-time during the summer. This means that eligible students who are currently in F1 status can work on campus at the institution that issued their current I-20 without requesting formal permission from ISS. Your on-campus employment authorization is not required to be recorded in SEVIS by ISS. It is a legal right.

In case you are an exchange student with a J1 visa, you are permitted to work on the campus part-time, that is, up to 20 hours per week, during the school year and full-time during school breaks. You must first acquire on-campus work authorization from your home school.

Off-Campus Jobs

F-1 visa holders who want to work off-campus may be eligible for:

  • Curricular Practical Training (CPT)
  • Optional Practical Training (OPT)

Non-degree J-1 exchange students interested in off-campus employment may be eligible to undergo academic training as part of their curriculum.

Check out the difference between CPT and OPT, here.
