Initially envisioned as a “simple Bible college,” Point Loma Nazarene University is now a Christian liberal arts college that offers 60 undergraduate courses in the fields of Arts and Science. It offered its first doctoral-level programme in 2017. It is accredited to a number of organisations, including Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, Council of Social Work Education and National Associations of Schools of Music. The university is a faith-based institute which beliefs in reaching out to its neighbours and helping society at large. Students go on short-term missions to places across the world, in order to help the homeless, serve community and tutor.
It offers a variety of activities every year ranging from Writers’ Symposium to the H. Orton Wiley lectures that discuss theology, philosophy and church history. By the end of their courses, students have had experience in a number of fields. Some have demonstrated their talents in art exhibitions while others have interned in various organisations. Students undertake undergraduate honours projects while Masters’ students write a thesis. They have interned in companies such as DJO Global, Volcom, Water Innovations, Spy Optic, Moss Adams, Deloitte, Ernst and Young, Morgan Stanley among many others.
Students are given assistance with regards to financial needs and academic counselling. They can also apply for merit-based scholarships. Students, who have been admitted to the MBA programme, can avail of the PLNU MBA International Student Scholarship.
