What are the eligibility requirements for students?

Saint Louis University accepts students based on their academic skills and knowledge. The completion of Grade 12 is mandatory for international students to apply for undergraduate programs, and a graduation degree is mandatory while applying for post-graduate degrees. Applicants should have a minimum 2.5 GPA. 

The minimum entry requirements set by the university are as follows:

Application & Tuition Fees

Is there any application fees?

There is no application fee for undergraduate students. For graduate students, the application fee is USD 65. The application fee is non-refundable. It takes four weeks to process the application fees. Application fee waivers are available for students with financial hardships.

Scholarships & Financial Aid

Is there any scholarship or financial aid available for international students?

The university offers various scholarships to international undergraduate and graduate students, which  are as follows:

  1. Merit-based Scholarships – The university offers a USD 8,000 to USD 25,000 per year scholarship to freshman students based on their previous academic skills and performance. The deadline is early December.
  2. Competitive Scholarships – Competitive scholarships are categorized in various parts:
    • Presidential scholarship – Presidential scholarship is available to students with a cumulative GPA of 3.85 or higher in high school. The scholarship is available for four years, and the amount differs based on chosen programs and courses
    • Martin Luther King Jr. Scholarship – It is also available to students with a cumulative GPA of 3.85 or higher in high school and is offered to the students who want to take a part in leadership within the university. The amount of the scholarship is USD 24,000
    • SLU National Merit Award – The amount of USD 2,000 is given as financial aid to the students with highly competitive scores
  1. Private scholarships – There are some private scholarships offered to both domestic and international students based on programs, courses, GPAs and interests. Students can check the university's college board or scholarship websites for private scholarship listings.

Application Instructions: International students can apply for scholarships along with the admission application on the university's official webpage.  Students are also required to submit a 500-word essay for some of the above-mentioned scholarships and are advised to apply in advance.

Admission Process

When do the admissions start?

The SLU offers rolling admissions, meaning there is no particular deadline. Students can apply all year long. The university has two sessions: Fall, and Spring. The candidates can apply whenever they like, without any restriction. To apply for scholarships, students are advised to do so before December.

What are the steps to the application process?

International students can apply by filling out a form from the university's website, or through the Common Application. To start an international application, new candidates need to register first with their details. Applicants will be able to review and track all their university applications online at any time.

Step 1: Open the Common Application page at Candidates are required to select their respective categories, like transfer student, first-year student, education professional, parent, or other adults.

Step 2: The next step is to sign in. If you are new, first make an account.

Step 3: Next step is to create an account. The candidate has to fill in his/her information like the first name, last name, email address, password, home address, phone number, pin code, and some other behavioural questions.

Step 4: The last step is to apply for college. All the information needed for candidates would be available on the common app portal. The portal would show a dashboard, colleges, common app view, college searches, and financial aid. Candidates can log in to their common app account to update or alter any changes required.

When will I hear from the university after I submit my application?

The applications are considered as per the university’s policies and procedures. Usually, international applicants receive a decision within 3-4 weeks of submitting a complete application. Students will receive the confirmation via email if selected by the university.

The acceptance rate of the university is 58.3%. The university is selective regarding its students. SLU’s acceptance rate increases each academic year as it enrols more students across its programs. For some courses, interviews or auditions are held, and a few design courses may require portfolios.

SLU is committed to maintaining a high-quality student body that is most likely to succeed in its rigorous programs. Thus, admission to the university is competitive, and merely meeting the minimum entrance requirements for the program is not enough. A strong academic record with competitive scores is imperative to increase the chances of getting into this university.

The total student population of the university is around 14,500, including 9,800 undergraduate students. Part Time Work While Studying

Can I work while studying here?

The university offers various on and off-campus employment opportunities to international students. Students can work 15 hours off-campus per week during a regular session and up to 40 hours during breaks and summer holidays.

On-campus employment is funded by the SLU Employment Program. Students must complete a FAFSA form (Free Application for Federal Student Aid). The payment is made biweekly and is directly credited to the student's savings or checking account based on working hours. Students need to submit the FAFSA for employment opportunities. They must meet the minimum requirements for working while studying.  

SLU has several off-campus employment listings for student's reference. Students are advised to check the sites on the university's official website for private job listings. They can also directly apply for work opportunities at Handshake by creating an account. 

International candidates should have:

  • Enrolled in a study program for more than six months
  • SIN number for identification purposes
  • Are already enrolled and started the study program
  • Legal study permit

Campuses & Accommodation

How many colleges and campuses does the university have?

The campus of Saint Louis University covers 282 acres of land comprising 129 buildings. It has four gigantic libraries with multiple research centres and over a million books, including approximately 140 electronic databases and 6,000 journal subscriptions. The main campuses of the university are the North Campus, School of Law, South Campus, Madrid Campus, and Flight Line. There is only one school under the university, i.e., the School of Law.

Is on-campus housing available? How much does it cost?

Saint Louis University offers both on and off-campus facilities to the students. A total of 90% of students live on campus. The university offers 11 on-campus residence halls and apartment complexes. The key facilities include wireless internet, comfortable furniture, bed, air conditioning, tables, suite-style living options with private bedrooms, and shared bathroom and kitchen. The residence halls include DeMattias Hall, Fusz Hall, Grand forest, Grand Hall, Griesedieck Complex, Marchetti Towers, Marguerite Hall, Reinert Hall, Robert May, Spring Hall, and the Village.

The university also offers various off-campus housing facilities that provide resources and listings of private-owner housing options near the university area. In addition to this, students can check the university's website for numerous communal housing cooperatives, housing companies, and private landlords for housing accommodations.
