Scholarships & Financial Aid


Is there any scholarship or financial aid available for international students?


SJSU’s Financial Aid and Scholarship Office (FASO) looks after the availability of the scholarship for all its national and international students.

International students are not eligible to avail of merit or need-based scholarships or financial aids offered by the university. However, students are recommended to check with their respective departments for any program-based awards or bursaries granted to students in general.

They may also check their eligibility to apply for fellowships and student assistant jobs are offered by external organizations and agencies. These include churches and fraternal organizations.

What are the steps to the application process?


As SJSU is the founding campus of Cal State University, it accepts all applications from the California State University’s application portal. Applicants need to visit Cal State’s official website to begin the application process and then return to SJSU’s website to complete the application using the same credentials.

International students may follow the program-based step-by-step approach given below:

Undergraduate Applicants

Step 1: Meet the academic requirements of international freshman as discussed earlier.

Step 2: Choose a major carefully.

Step 3: Apply to SJSU at Cal State Apply via www2.calstate.edu/apply/international.

Step 4: Look for an email with SJSU ID.

Step 5: Create a password for the SJSUOne/MySJSU account.

Step 6: Sign in to the MySJSU student account on the Spartan Apps Portal.

Part Time Work While Studying


Can I work while studying here?


International students on F1 Visa enrolled in any full-time program at SJSU are allowed to work part-time as student assistants while studying. The jobs allowed to interested students are on-campus employment given that they maintain their status with the university by enrolling into full-time programs every semester. They also need to maintain good academic standing.

Working Hours

Students are allowed to work up to 20 hours a week while a semester is on in a US university. However, working hours can exceed during the semester break. The university may take strict action against any student exceeding working hours and breaking the rules and regulations of the country.
