St. John’s University is a private Catholic university in New York City. It was founded in 1870. The university is committed to academic excellence and providing quality education to students coming to study at the university from around the world. It has six colleges and seven locations that provide several study areas based on students’ requirements. St. John’s consists of 32 fraternities and sororities chapters for its students. Its state-of-the-art campuses include libraries, media, performing arts, theatres, museums, and exhibition spaces. The university offers more than 100 undergraduate, graduate, and doctorate programs to all students. It also has accelerated three-year bachelor’s degrees, five-year bachelor’s/ master’s degrees, a six-year bachelor’s/J.D. through its top-tier School of Law, and a six-year Pharm.D. Program.

What are the eligibility requirements?
St. John’s has subject-specific score requirement for each program and international applicants need to prove their English proficiency as well.
Undergraduate Admissions
International applicants must complete a high school diploma (US equivalent) to be eligible for admission. Although the university is test-optional, SAT or ACT scores are required in the following circumstances if an applicant is:
- Wishing to be considered for academic scholarships.
- Applying to the Actuarial Science, Bio-Optometry, Pharmacy (PharmD), Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology, or three-year programs.
- Competing at the NCAA level

*The English Language Immersion Toward Excellence (ELITE) Admission Program provides students with the opportunity to enroll full-time in their degree program, taking a combination of credit-bearing English as a second language (ESL) and regular courses. Students can use these credit-bearing ESL courses to fulfill an elective toward the completion of the academic degree program or foreign-language requirement.
Postgraduate Admissions
International graduate applicants must have a bachelor’s degree from a recognized university (US equivalent) to be eligible for admission. GPA and score requirements vary as per chosen major and program. Standardized exam scores like GRE and GMAT are required as per subject requirements. Some courses also provide a GMAT/GRE waiver if the applicant has a cumulative 3.25 GPA or higher. Apart from this, international applicants also need to fulfill the English language requirements. For graduate aspirants, the university accepts exam scores of TOEFL, IELTS, or Duolingo. Minimum score requirements vary as per program or course. What all documents are needed for application?
Applicants who have attended an international university or whose academic records/transcripts are in a language other than English, and not accredited by the United States, must submit a foreign credential evaluation. The university requires a course-by-course evaluation from its approved list of agencies, which can be found on www.naces.org. Is there any application fees?
The university charges no application fee for both undergraduate and graduate programs if the applications are done online.
What is the fee structure of courses offered by the university?
Tuition is assessed based on student classification, a program of study and campus of record. All fees and the entire tuition for each semester are due and payable in full or on a University Payment Plan before registration can be completed. Scholarships & Financial Aid
Is there any scholarship or financial aid available for international students?
St. John’s University offers merit scholarships to international students. The Academic Merit Scholarships cover USD 5,000 per year to full tuition for up to four year of full-time continuous undergraduate studies at the university. Other scholarships open for international applicants are:
- First-Time Freshman Future Johnny Award: A scholarship of USD 500 will be offered to undergraduate students. The award money can be used for purchases from the university’s bookstore.
- Ozanam Scholars Program: A scholarship of USD 10,000 is offered to students selected for their knack for innovation and uniqueness in studies and during previous qualifications. The scholarship can be renewed annually for a maximum of four years.
- External Scholarships: The university also accepts various external scholarships to international students, which are funded by private companies or organizations and offered to students who require financial assistance. The amount varies based on a student’s financial need.

International undergraduate students can either apply using the Common Application portal or St. John’s Application portal. Only one application from either of the portal will be accepted by the university. International students can work off- and on-campus while studying at the university. Students are required to have an F-1 status to work on-campus at the university. Students can work for 20 hours a week during the study semester and full-time during vacations and holidays. Students do not require authorization from the ISSSO or USCIS. The university provides off-campus employment opportunities to international students. Students can opt for Curriculum Practical Training or Optional Practical Training in line with their requirements and interests. Students can also choose to work with international organizations if they have an F-1 visa status. St. John’s also offers Severe Economic Hardship Employment to students who need financial assistance. Students are required to demonstrate their financial needs, such as medical bills, unexpected changes in financial conditions, increase in living costs or fees, fluctuation in the currency exchange rate, loss of financial aid, etc., to avail themselves of this facility.
